Wheel Bearings changed MOT advisory flagged

I had to change my front wheel bearings (both sides) at short notice for the MOT.
Got non OEM ones from a local factor.
They are branded TRUPART - TBK1491 and seemed fine when I fitted them.

The original bearings were shot.

All went together well and hub nuts torqued correctly.
Nasty squealing noises gone, all much smoother etc.

The MOT gave an advisory that the new wheel bearings had play!

Are there other suspension components that can give a false sense of bearing play?

I'd assume that even non OEM bearings should start off OK.

Could be many loose joints that will cause play, but the MOT examiner will have identified those separately.

No, a new wheel bearing should not have any play. The general consensus on here is to stick to Timken bearings (for the front) although some have has success with other brands.

I knew it would backfire using non OEM.
Things are a bit tight as moving and paying out money left, right and centre.
Hence going for the 'cheap' option, although they weren't that cheap Shocked
Guess I'll have a repeat job after moving.

My compensation is that I'll finally have off road parking and a double garage to ease the pain.
At the moment living on a hill with street parking, which makes repairs so much more fun Very Happy

Thumbs Up

I'm afraid cheap parts rarely end up being cheap in the long run. Sad

I have found a lot of cheap bearings have play and no noise. Just poor build quality. They are usually ok until the rumble.
