Suspension Red Light. Help Plz.

Hi

Had our 07 plate D3 for a year now and just had new belts all round to make her last longer as I love the car.

BUT...this evening I was tootling along and suddenly for no apparent reason red light on suspension and the car went down to the ground. I stopped and turned off and on again and the suspension came back.

Have been reading on the forum but any suggestions as to first port of call as to what the problem might be would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Adri

Realy need the codes read. But could be as simple as low tyre pressure or leaky/sticky valves, pipe, reservoir, faulty senor, broken wire.

Thx for the reply.

Is there a cheap but effective Disco 3 code reader to be purchased?

Don't mind buying one if it's not too much.

Cheers

From my extensive experience as a disco owner, all of 5 months, the short answer is ‘no’.

Cheapest ‘official’ option is iCarsoft I think, and you can get that for about £100 for anfailt code reader.

Britpart do the lynx range from about £300, again Fault code readers.

More advanced diagnostic tools with ecu update functions start heading towards NanoCom and GAP IDD around £400. The GAP tool seems the current most recommended forum tool.

JLR option is using their SDD software (available free) but requires a ‘cable’ at about £500 and a TOPix subscription which as a few hundred.

There is also a Chinese ‘Mangoose’ knockoff option that can be gotten from eBay for as little as £30 that purportedly will do the diag stuff and flash, but you run the risk of bricking your car if you aren’t careful or the cable fails.

Not sure this all helps ....

As to your problems, given the recent rain, is the passanger footwell wet?

If ‘yes’, lift the carpet up (lift the passanger door treadplate trim) and feel between carpet and metal floor pan, and see if there is water pooling on the floor. If so there may be water gathering in the wiring loom channel that sits under the door treadplate. This can be known to cause electrical issues, but this could also be a red herring.

Reading codes is still a good place to start, but may not pinpoint the issue,.

You would be better asking if someone is local to you with iid tool who will read the codes for you.

Save your money
Only 1 road to go down GAP IID and the bluetooth version in my opinion.
It will pay for itself in no time.
Don't mess around, you may only need a £20 part to fix your problem but a cheap code reader may send you down the wrong alley and you spend more replacing parts with your fingers crossed.
The IID will pay for itself in no time and there resale value is close to what you will pay for it.

Buy cheap - buy twice

I have a generic OBD2 reader from my Honda.

Used it before I bought the disco, but said there were no fault codes at all.

Got Bodsey to scan it a couple of weeks after, and despite mine still reporting nothing, the IID tool showed all the body control, engine, fbh cod3s that were actually there.

So, apologies, but that thing will probably not show you anything

Anyone in the Tideswell Derbyshire area with a proper code reader?

I've checked the tyre pressures and all are at 38.

I've measured the wheel arch to centre of hub and they are Front 470mm, 470mm Back 480mm, 495mm

Does that back wheel difference account for anything?

Many thanks for all the help.

There should be, but worst case scenario, I’m over Telford direction, which isn’t a million miles away.

If you get stuck and are prepared to come over this way, I can scan I for you.

I have the iCarsoft and it's okay. It's no IID tool for sure but I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand. I only paid about £80 for mine and for that I think it's good value.

It is clunky to use and can only do a fraction of the things an IID tool can do but it can do some very useful things...

Codes Read.

C1A06 O/S/R Height Sensor

U0416 Invalid Data from vehicle dynamics Cont Mod

C1A07 Cross Articulation

The guys who do the vehicle are ordering a height sensor.

How does that sound?

Also, many thanks for the offer of Code Reading XDAndy!
