There’s a couple of things I don’t like about this particular D5. Steering wheel feel is very thin, the electrical set up of the rear seats is nice, but in 5 years time when they’re out of warranty all I can see is £££££££ oh and access mode could do with being a little lower. But 38/39mpg and it’s SO quiet inside. Meridian stereo is very good.

Good luck with the loner. I'll assume a fair amount of negativity in advance. Let's see if I'm right

If you read back through my posts about the D5 you’ll see that I’ve said a number of times that I’ve never ruled out the possibility that I might own one in the future and whilst I don’t like the deisgn, especially the rear, that wouldn’t be a deal beaker for me. My main negatives have always been the leg room, overall driving position, tail gate and shape of the load area.
I’ve always been happy for those who find that the D5 is well suited for their needs.

I picked one up today as a loaner while they sort out a squeaky driver's seat and the start-stop.

Initial impressions are very good, I like the infotainment system, the say nav is a big improvement.

The cabin is very quiet and the driver's seat is much better than the D4. I had a quick sit in the back and didn't like the back seats. The electric folding seats are very good although as said before could get expensive in a few years time when they break.

On the road, it seems more planted in the corners than the D4. Not sure I would go for the 4 pot diesel if I was to buy one

Overall very impressed Very Happy

I have had a ‘poverty spec’ loaner for the past couple of weeks. As others have said, when cruising it is exceptionally quiet and comfortable (in the front). I carried passengers in the rear last week, and they said that it wasn’t that comfortable, and nowhere near so as my old D4.

Whether it’s just this one, I don’t know, but the lag when setting off is frightening at times, and verging on dangerous at others. It eventually starts off slowly, and then goes off with a real jolt. I do like the alleged economy though (backed up by using only half a tank on a return trip to Winchester that would have used 3/4 in the D4).

At the end I prefer this one, IMHO more distinctive ......

This is too similar to our cousin Discovery Sport

@Nigel207:

It’s a very similar engine in the TDV6 Full Fat and it has exactly the same lag. It’s really noticeable pulling my out of a junction into moving traffic and can’t be driven as smoothly.

It’s still a good engine and if someone had never driven the proper, twin turbo, SDV6 in the D4, it might even slip under the radar.

I’ve yet to drive an auto LR that doesn’t suffer from lag.

My TDV6 D3, Fl2 SD4, both SDV6 D4s, TD6 D5, Velar and my loaner DS 9 speed auto.

The 240 in the Velar has it in abundance, one of my big gripes with it, otherwise it’s a good engine.

It’s certainly the worst one that I’ve driven for lag. It’s MUCH worse than my D4, and I’ve driven V6 D5, FFRR, RRS and Velar, and can’t say that I noticed it in those, certainly nowhere near the degree in the 240 D5. Oddly, I’ve driven a Disco Sport 240 too, and that wasn’t bad, so I wonder if it’s this particular car?

I had the D5 240 loaner a few months back and never noticed much in the way of lag, but really noticed it getting back into my Velar.

I found it noticeably in the single turbo V6, I much prefer the EU6 twin turbo in the D4.
However, there was minimal lag on the 2.0L I had for a few days.
Seems odd Confused

My RRS SDV6 is quite the worst automatic car I've driven, ever. The "lag" is not just bad, it's possibly criminal. At times pulling on to a roundabout has felt like I'm setting up a "crash for cash" scam.

It has been suggested that a TSB was produced that helped to alleviate the problem. Also, that a remap of the engine makes it massively better. I shall ask my indy about the TSB but I'm seriously considering getting rid of the SDV6. It really is that bad. My old TDV8 with 170k miles on the clock was a much nicer drive in this regard.

Sat in a D5 at the dealers the other day and have to agree that the front seats are very comfortable but the middle row seem to have been dropped so there is very little leg room and the underside of your legs aren't supported by the seat. Jumped into the Disco Sport by the side of it and that was far better. Have been undecided on the D5 since launch and thought it might be growing on me a bit but for now have given up on it.
