I've had mine 6 months now and after 2 D3's and 2 D4's I don't regret a thing. It hasn't missed a beat and is a great drive. Never look back Thumbs Up

It’s funny you should say that J77.

The current loaner is an 18 plate, 306bhp, td6 with 1959 on the clock and it’s showing just 6150 miles to the next oil change. That’s the very newest version of the motor and the next oil change will be pretty much only half way to the first scheduled service.

Like DG I love mine. The 2L engine is a gem and plenty powerful enough. No oil dilution issues either. Just had its first service at nigh on 19K miles when the service nags started and requiring a service notice at just over 21K miles.

The tailgate is fine (even the daggers) but agree it doesn't go low enough when loading or when a tired dog struggles to jump in. Sloped load space a bit weird but only noticeable when the dog cage is in it.

Piano black plastics are very easy to scratch and so are the black plastics on the exterior too. Anything other than a fresh lambswool mitt will mark it.

The water based paints are very prone to scratches too so avoid black !! Mine (black) is covered in tiny scratches (plus some worse ones from when a van hit me!!).

But overall its a great drive and bloody massive inside.

If you carry rear passengers there's another aspect that you might want to consider
jeepmadmike:

The high floor / low seat / high waste line / small window seating in the back of the '5 is pretty normal in a lot of modern saloons, hatchbacks and estates, but the '4 was never built that way, especially with the ultra high roof and stadium seating in the '4.

Although some passengers may not want to mention it, you might want to check that car sickness isn't a problem first - especially if you have children that aren't fully grown.

I don't think the concerns you have would be deal breakers maybe the doors.

Having spent weeks driving the D5 I would have one but sadly the boot space isn't as big as the D4 so we cant fit everything in plus they don't offer a petrol anymore and I don't really want a diesel given the issues.

It is very different to the D4 from a practicality stand point not just load space but for storage generally and through load capacity if you need to carry stuff with the boot open like me you cant do so without the number plate and lights facing upwards which could be questioned legally. I would say have a another very close look and if it can carry everything you need then consider, its got closer competition than the D4 had too so make sure you test the XC90, Q7 and GLS.

They still offer a petrol but only the 2.0 300hp ingenium, apparently it’s a good enough engine.

I like the D5, not sure if I mentioned it before Laughing but as with my Velar it’s LRs quality/reliability that lets the product down and dealers who don’t seem interested.

RM - That sounds about right. You ain’t driving it properly, you need to change your style Laughing

forgot about the 2.0l I kind of ignore it as I tow heavy a lot with the D4 fully loaded plus a roof box. I might be being a bit old school but not sure I'd fancy the 2.0L in that scenario even with the HP it has.

The loss of load space is the biggest issue for me...
