Scottish Highlands at the weekend
Heading up to the Highlands at the weekend. Spending two weeks up there. First week is in a cottage on the east coast in a little village called Rockfield. Then over to the west for the second week in a log cabin at Lochinver.
Can't wait to go. Will be doing sections of the NC500 and as much site seeing as we can.
Weather not looking great but I've got the vehicle for it. So if you see me give me a toot and a wave
Will be posting plenty of photos just to prove it did happen

Well, it’s miserable, wet, cold and very windy here at the moment. It’s defo turning autumn. But you never know with the weather.
Wouldn’t go into Tain at an evening on the weekend. It’s a war zone!

Hoping to see some wildlife. A golden eagle would be fantastic but may not happen. Another thing I’d like to see is the Northern Lights. A couple of photos on the booking site showed this. What’s the chances, I know we need some clear nights but what’s the likelihood of it.

You stand a pretty good chance of seeing the aurora from Lochinver as long as it's clear. Just head a bit away from the town and if the aurora is active you'll get a cracking view. Check out http://www.aurora-service.eu/aurora-forecast/ to see what your chances are.
Once you've eaten the entire Pie Shop in Lochinver, the Caberfeidh is a cracking place to eat. Have fun.D1 300Tdi - gone

Shouldn’t be a problem seeing a Golden Eagle, Red Kite etc. If all else fails, Dunrobin Castle has a falconry centre with these birds.
Despite what’s said re the Northern Lights, you are too early. That’s really a November onwards sort of thing and even then can’t guarantee. Maybe happen 2 or 3 times a year for half an hour or so, I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Even then it’s sometimes a red, green glow that’s hard to distinguish, not like the graphic photos you’ve probably seen.

Didn’t think we’d get to see it but would be nice. The log cabin we’re staying in is apparently 1/2 to 1 mile down a dirt track so shouldn’t be to much light pollution. Taking one of my scopes so the Milky Way will do D4 MY15 SE TECH

Been a bit rainy in North Lakes so far. Weather looks to be improving from tomorrow (last time I looked).
We're doing a similar thing in that we're having a week in the Lakes followed by a week in Norfolk.

Taken from the north coast. - but beware, a long exposure on the camera produces this imagery. Even after living here for 5 years I’ve never seen anything close to this with just the naked eye.
