I’m heading off to NZ in December for 3 weeks, and will need a hire car.
Whilst I’d love a D4, my budget won’t quite stretch that far, so I’ll have to settle for something less luxurious!, but would still like an SUV.
Can anyone recommend a sensibly priced hire company?. We’re flying in & out of Christchurch, a family of 4 - Me, SWMBO & 2 kids (3 & 7 yo - the flights will be fun! 😳🙄😫).
Thanks in advance 👍

We spend every May in NZ we always use Budget and always get a highlander. Very suitable for people and bags. You have to call directly as the higher spec cars are not bookable online.
Met a few travelling with young kids and they all hire the same. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

You should be getting some great weather!
Pretty much we have the same hire car companies you do. I would generally recommend Europcar, Hertz, Avis or Budget.
Car wise, pretty much any Japanese/Korean SUV should suit your needs. Toyota RAV4 or Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe or ix35, etc. SUVs are mass market here.
The South Island has amazing scenery. I lived in Christchurch for 16 years, and am now in Dunedin (4 hours south). Where about are you travelling? King of the typo.
MY11 D4 5.0 V8, Bournville, lots of goodies!
Now departed: '85 RR Vogue, '94 D1, '95 D1, '70 SIIA, '97 D1, '04 D2a. All V8, except for the SIIA - but that drank as much petrol anyway!

Hired a Highlander from Auckland airport in April and was very impressed...quick, quiet and plenty of room (family of 4 with loads of luggage) Hire company wanted us to take something smaller but I’m pleased we didn’t .
Wife booked it from this end, I’ll find out who she used 👍 "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

i go to CHC every other year.
I always compare Holiday Autos as quite often they are cheaper than booking direct. I have hired a Prado this year but usually a Highlander type thing or even a subaru outback is fine.
