Vegas Lay over
I have a 14 hour lay over in Vegas next Friday (5pm till 7am) any recommendations on what to see in that short period of time? Had a "discounted" voucher for a night helicopter flight up and down The Strip but not sure its value for money (to be fair being a Yorkshire man if it was free it still wouldn't be value for money). I do have a room booked down by the airport but my understanding is it is 15 min walk max from The Strip. Just wondering if I walk up and down The Strip looking at hotels etc and getting a general experience is enough or am I missing out on something I should certainly do.
Also any tips for 3 days in LA as well

Did the same thing a long time ago. Flight over Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam was well worth it if there’s time. Walk the strip, spend some time in a couple of the casinos soaking up the atmosphere. Have fun!

Suppose you could pass an hour or two here if inclined
Will be with the girlfriend so throwing $$s at strippers, getting drunk and having shotgun wedding with Elvis officiating and Madonna as bridesmaid are probably off the table for this trip.

Well maybe not just the stripper bit.
PS Edited to reflect what I thought I’d said, not what I actually said.

Fremont and stratosphere and if during the day and you are into aircraft, Nellis AFB
All north of the strip but cheap in a taxi - monorail to Stratosphere
Fountains at Bellagio also worth a watch

yes, just a walk up the strip, walk through the hotels and casinos to stay out of the sun, dont play if you dont want to, just watch. A lot of the hotels have buffet lunchs so maybe use one of those to eat. The entrance to the toyshop in Ceasars palace is novel, fountains at the bellagio, canals inside the venatian, sinking the pairate boats in the lake at Teasure Island, loads of things to just look at.

As others have suggested, just walk up and down the strip and soak it all in.
3 days in LA is tough, a studio tour (Paramount, Warner Bros) takes most of a day but worth the experience. Take a stroll through Rodeo Drive, Wiltshire Boulevard, Beverley Hills Hilton (ignore the "Maps of the Stars Houses" - rip off) but if going with girlfriend that could get really expensive!
LA covers a huge area so alot will depend on where you are stayingUncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Great thanks for ideas and info. I think a wander round the hotels and just take in the atmosphere in Las Vegas sounds the best option
@ianm27 - definately planning a studio tour - do you have experience of both paramount and warner bros? Any view on which is best ? Stopping just off Hollywood and Vine so pretty central to the "touristy" area. Was tempted to go on one of the many tours that are offered but now wondering if its worth it or just to get a metro ticket and explore areas at my own pace etc. Fancy a trip out to Venice/Santa Monico beaches as well

We did the Warner Bros studio tour, but it was quite a few years ago, thoroughly enjoyed it
I would suggest just getting a Metro ticket and explore where you want - Venice/Santa Monica Beaches are definitely worth a visit and you HAVE to pose on Muscle Beach
Also worth a trip up to Pacific Palisades along PCH (Pacific Coast Highway), scenery and views are amazing.Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector
