MY14 Lights DRL & Indicator Relationship |
|
Hi all,
I bought a test rig Xenon light to get to fix and document on getting the flash on MY14 lights on a MY13 and earlier D4 to work when lights are off.
Whilst I've got the rig I thought I would investigate how to get the DRLs to dim when indicating but don't know the behaviour from factory. So can I ask someone with a MY14 Xenon setup to have a look and let me know what happens at different stages of light output when indicating please.
What I know now:
DRL's bright when lights "off"
DRL's dim when sidelights only are on
DRL's bright again on main beam *not 100% sure of this but it works
What I'd like to know when indicating:
Do DRL's dim to sidelight strength or lower or do they go off
Does this behaviour change when on side lights / main lights
TIA

Hey Nick,
On my MY14, when I am stationary, neither DRL dims when indicators are flashing regardless of lights on or off.
I need to check what happens when I am moving but will need to be dark for this. I believe the side illumination light comes on and the DRL dims but will confirm. Justin

Also, DRLs do not light if left in P for more than some set time I seem to remember.

when I fitted some after-market DRLs to the D4, I found a very useful Government (or maybe EU ?) document on the requirements of keeping them legal. I'm pretty sure it explained at length about dimming requirements if within a given distance of the indicators … but can't find the blessed thing at the mo. I'll have a look later if I can but SWMBO is taking me out for a curry so that's getting precedence !

I must be going mad then - i'm sure the factory std. MY14 DRL dimmed when indicating on the disco's I've seen and wanted that function on mine if possible ... but if you are saying it doesn't happen I won't investigate further Stolen - D4 Loire Blue
