Do I have a GVIF?

Hi all,
I have a 54 plate Disco 3 HSE which is seemingly without a TV, Bluetooth or phone connectivity; how would I tell if it has a 'GVIF' module? Is a GVIF the three VGA-type plug port on the rear of the Nav screen?

Cheers, Sam

Gvif is aftermarket.
Usually loose under passenger seat!

So unlikely

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. So they seem to be aftermarket devices to make would-be OEM add-on devices like reverse cameras, TV and so on work? Is that right?
My hope would be to wire up (or maybe buy wireless) a reverse camera so it automatically comes on the nav screen when reverse gear is engaged - I've looked at a few other threads regarding this and a few people have mentioned about doing the RR mod but having a GVIF thing too? What does it even do? Would the three phono/vid-looking ports on the rear of the nav screen not support reverse cameras and/or TV inputs?

Cheers, Sam

Yep, that’s pretty much it.

It’s basically a video feed controller, a small box about 4” square and 1” deep. Most people fit them under the passenger seat beside the sat nav DVD player. That player feeds, via a cable, the sat nav data onto the dashboard display screen.

The GVIF needs a power feed and you disconnect the sat nav unit output and plug it into one GVIF input. The feed onto the display screen is plugged into the GVIF output. So now the sat nav feed to the screen runs through the GVIF.

You’ve then got three other video inputs into which you can feed, say, a TV receiver, a trailer cam/monitor or any other camera.

You have a small scroll button that needs to be fitted somewhere on the dash and with that you can scroll through the video feeds choosing which one is sent onto the screen.

There’s also a dedicated reversing cam feed which is triggered by a connection to the reversing lights, engage reverse and the camera feed cuts in automatically overriding any other feed.

It's GVIF OR RR Mod not both.

RR Mod.
1) Is cheaper
2) Does not show the full picture (as the aspect ratio isn't right)
3) Requires a switch adding by the display to switch between RR and normal
4) Requires an IID tool to configure the car to say a camera is fitted.
5) Requires a light sensor and circuit to ensure the display is bright enough in sunlight
3 & 5 requires you to be good with small electronics

GVIF
1) expensive
2) Can be a pain reading Chinese english
3) Can be frustrating to setup but not too bad
4) Can take a long time to install removing passenger seat
5) good if you want to have a TV / DVD Player / PS4 as it has 3 other inputs
