SMART meters, the latest reason to have one.....
.......So the NHS can track behavioural patterns in Dementia patients in their home apparently.
Not sure the intended target of a SMART meter in every home by 2020 will be achieved though to assist that.

I’ll consider a smart meter when someone tells me how I can save electricity cf what I use now without saying “don’t use the kettle “, ie no tea for SWMBO, on not heating up the hot water for a bath.

I designed and developed a range of load switches for smart meters. That's the switch that cuts the power off when you upset the supplier.
I understood very early on in the project, that the main reason for smart meters was to allow remote disconnection, without the need to enter a property. Saves a lot of stress at the door step when the occupier won't let the electric company in to disconnect the supply!Richard

The advantage to the consumer MIGHT be that they are not turned off because they are a good customer, rather than the whole valley going off regardless.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

I think they provide the 'meter' part and trust that the organic bit provides the 'smart'.
