In a nutshell, the American Global Positioning System is about to have its own Y2k problem. SatNav units designed pre 2010 using the predecessor to ICD-200/IS-GPS-200 may (are likely to) cease to work correctly from 6th April due to the way the date is stored/used in the earlier specification.
If VDO Dayton (the providers of the GPS hardware, firmware and software for the D3) didn't design for this or include the firmware update for this in the disc updates once the later spec was rolled out (2010) then connection to the US GPS system will result in either incorrect location or no location being provided. The only fix is a firmware update.
Given the D4 was already with us by 2010, I'll be watching this one with interest.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

. Worried about my other cars that actually have a good but old nav system.
That answers a question for me then, we have a 17 plate Renault Master on our fleet, it came up with a message this week that it must be connected to a PC and have an update before the 4th of April otherwise it will no longer work.
Also received an email a couple of months ago for an old Tomtom unit that was binned years ago that it needed an important update.
I suspect this is going to affect a LOT of manufacturers. Given the lead times on vehicle development and warranted life of vehicles I can see this being a big problem.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Already evidenced that a 2017 van has the problem I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

It’s the end of the world. People might have to use a MAP!

I’d much rather prefer GPS than a paper map and compass.
