Upper tailgate
Hi
When I press the tailgate button the actuator makes the noise as if it’s working but the latch doesn’t release the door. I can’t open the tailgate now, is there a manual way of releasing the lock? And what would be the best fix?
Thanks

You have to press and hold the button on your fob at the same time you press the Handle on the tail gate
Or it maybe the cable broke to the latch in that case you'll have to take the panel out to get to it there's plenty of threads about this

I’ve tried the holding buttons thing and it didn’t work. It’s not the actuator part, that’s sounds as if it’s working fine. It’s like something on the latch has broken and the wire isn’t pulling it open any more. Can you link the forum where it shows how to open the top tailgate manually. I can’t find any with the same problem as mine.
Thanks

so from these diagrams, descriptions and other research the most likely cause is that the L shaped part of the cable has broken off that pulls to the lock mechanism?

If you hear the actuator whirr but nothing releases, the cable end will have sheared off.
You're going to need little girl hands to resolve it as there ain't much room.Mods:

All sorted. Got it working again using the Allen key piece and an electrical connector. Hopefully it lasts a little while. Can’t see there being much force through it!

Yea really easy, the hardest bit was trying to get the cable unattached from the actuator frame whilst it was all closed. Took more force than I expected to have to use to get it free so I could release the latch. Took about 45 mins from start to finish.

The diy fix didn’t last long, only a couple of week. It failed again today ordered a new part today and are going to replace it with a new one.

Fixed mine with a modified brass electrical connector
Now the actual method of getting the upper lid open and accessing the whole actuator unit has been covered very well here in other threads and thanks to those threads and you tube videos the whole process took me less than 30 minutes.
I read endlessly trying to find solutions to the problem including the cable tie way to reattach the cable into the actuator.
Amongst all the similar solutions suggested one forum member suggested using an electrical block connector.
I tried this today and it seems to do the trick .
.
Then cut open the connector and discard the plastic.
Cut the double block in half and trim one piece to fit the gap in the plastic actuator mechanism where it will sit.
The cable end is then inserted into the plastic mechanism and secured in the brass block.
I then secured the brass block holding the cable end using a couple of small cable ties.
It is possible to secure the brass block through the existing hole in the plastic mechanism , using a longer bolt, but although much neater this would require modifying/trimming the plastic mechanism to seat the brass terminal and I was not certain this would not weaken the actuator mechanism.
I hope this post will help someone and save them from a hefty garage bill for such an annoyingly simple problem

That's the same method I used, added a cable tie for good measure over a year all good...

Hi, I’ve a similar problem with tailgate not opening, but we th mine it won’t (rarely) unlock from fob but when I press the unlock button on the dash it unlocks no problem. All other doors ok from fob. Is this the same route. Need to go down?
