I was joking really, although you could rig it so you could actually get in the car, but not if it is too windy.
I've slept in the D3 a handful of times, and so long as I've had sufficient blankets I've not had a problem, but then one of the reasons I like the Highlands is the average temperature!

Our bedroom Thumbs Up
The reason why we sleep in the car is simply because I hate sleeping in a tent, and in this car this is definitely the more comfortable option too. For me, a tent is too noisy, too wet and too cold, so for me the only time I would sleep in a tent would be if I were to go overland or camping on my motorbike.

Plus the added bonus of not having to pack everything up when its persisting it down in the morning. We do it quite a lot when doing the N500 and no doubt we will do it in May when we tour Wales Thumbs Up

Is that a full on mattress? Do you have one just for camping, or is that the one you use on your bed?

How is it with all the dirt that comes from camping?

Wondering if I could just stick a cheap mattress in for trips and throw a tarp over it during the day.

It is a king size memory foam mattress cut to fit perfectly inside and for camping only.
From Amazon it cost me (with discount) about £50.
No idea what you are doing in your car Wink but our one was never so dirty as to be thrown out after Mr. Green

The Defender guys do this type of thing regularly- just a thought that it would be quite straightforward to produce a modular removable system for the D3 and D4. Pop it in, go camping! Return home, disassemble and turn it back into a limo...

Why all these complicated solutions ? There are mucht better ways to sleep without hassle,
for as little as € 14,- for two including a private bathroom and breakfast too ....

..and on the way over there... € 15,- , splash out.. ..you even get a jar of coffee Mr. Green

I'm looking to do something like this... could you link to the mattress you used?

What do you do with it when not in use? Roll it up?
