Wiring in a light bar - help please!

Just a few questions before I wire this in.
Fitted the light bar in place:

now to the wiring:
Here is my understanding of the loom that comes with the light bar ( no install instructions as I presume they thing it's so straight forward!)

So I think the above will make the lighter work on its own.

If I want it to work with the main beams as well do I wire the main red feed wire to the Main Beam feed live instead of connecting to the battery +ve?

Final piece of the puzzle - I've bought this factory switch to have on the dash.

I don't have a clue which pins to connect to what:

And I don't understand how to figure it out other than trial and error!

I would really appreciate any advice and guidance offered please.

Many thanks in advance

For starters, the red wire cannot go to your main beam as it's the main power feed and the main beam circuit isn't designed for that extra load (although it might work).

The red needs to go to battery (it looks like an inline fuse there so should be fine). The black to a good earth.

The dash switch wires can be chopped and go to the relevant switched pins on the switch you picture (I would use trial and error with a multimeter to work out which two pins to use.

You'd have to trace the wiring to be certain but if it is a positive switch then you could also connect to a main beam live but you'd need to include a switch to isolate it as well.

Firstly - do not wire the red terminal to the main beam feed. That will add the lightbar load to the main beam circuit which is not what you want. It needs to go to a battery feed (or from alternator B+ stud).

Connector for your switch:

https://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/5-way-defend...3-p71.html

Pinout:

1: Switched Ground Out (Grounded when switch pressed down)
2: Illumination +12V
3: (Internally connected to 4)
4: Ground
5: Spotlight positive (illuminates orange LED when spots on)

Your light bar wiring loom is designed to switch the light bar on and off from its own dash switch only, there's no main beam input to it.

So it needs mods to do change it to do what you want:
1. changing the relay coil feed to a main beam feed
2. relay negative feed from new dash switch (1)
3. relay output (light bar supply) feedback wire back to the switch (5)

@ibruceuk - thanks very much for the info
@Martin - thank you also for the info and the link to the switch connector, will buy one of those
@Rnclayton - link to the light bar here for you:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07DJ4...&psc=1

This afternoon I wired it up as intended just to check it all works ok as I have an MOT next week.

As soon as the switch arrives I can re-visit with the right connector and information from you all and then get it installed how I want it to be.

Thanks again - really appreciate your advice, as ever

All Disco3/4 have CAN buses on them!

What’s the thinking behind the question?

If it is can bus wiring, you def can’t hack into the main beam wiring, apart from the load issue it will bring up bulb failure alarms etc, you need an electronic relay like a canm8 I think is the one I used.... I’ll find a link to it.

It basically takes the main beam signal and uses it to switch the relay for the spots or light bar, I’m in Leeds at the mo, will send you some more stuff when I’m home in a couple of days

Thanks very much for this - I’ll happily have a go at most things, just don’t know much about the intricacies of auto electrics.

Went out and tested it tonight - bloody amazing when it’s on!
So if there is the option to either isolate it or have it come on with high beam then that would be the ideal Thumbs Up

The LR switch I have coming is to make it look more ‘factory’ when mounted in the dash.

That’s simply not true about not being able to take a feed from the main beam due to “the CAN bus” and needing a module to give an output.

The headlamps are not signalled to operate via CAN bus messages, they are hard wired from the CJB. Even on the last D4 Smile

The standard LR setup using that switch switches the -ve part of the circuit.

You have to do the same otherwise you won't be able to use the built in LED to indicate the lights are on.

It's probably quite obvious how I discovered that little gem Embarassed
