Women do it too.
I used to get a seat on the train and a heifer got on at the next stop and went to sit next to me. She was too fat for the seat so moved the armrest up, allowing her to spread on to my seat (imagine silly putty left in the sun).
Day 2 saw me with my arm on the armrest. Nae luck, fatty.
