Genuine 20" LR Wheels rubbing calipers

Hi all, new to this forum but not new to the D3 - having previously owned a 55 plate HSE, the wife now owning a 56 plate HSE and me now owning a 57 plate commercial, all TDV6 flavours.

Anyway hopefully you can help.

Prior to getting my new commercial (basic manual spec) I owned a SC Range Rover which had some nice 20" wheels on it - I'm sure you all know the type. Anyway, when I sold the Rangie it was wearing some overfinch rims and so I still had the 20" standard 8 spokes in the garage.

After looking at the puny 17" rims on my commercial - whilst it was parked next to the wifes HSE sitting on 19" items, I thought I may as well put those 20" Rangie SC rims to good use.

Once on the disco there was a clear rubbing noise happening, so I had a look and there was plenty of room around the tyres, it was actually the back of the wheel rubbing on the bottom part of the brake calipers (front wheels). Big Cry

Now they are definitely 100% genuine LR wheels, as I bought the Rangie brand new - so know for a fact that they are not replicas, but from everything else I have read on here, they should be ok shouldn't they?

Do you mean the back of the wheel spokes rubbing on the front face of the caliper?

It could be a different wheel off set.

It is quite close to the centre of the wheel where it is rubbing and it is definitely not the front face of the caliper. It looks like a smaller piece under the caliper towards the hub. And yes, its the back of the spokes that were touching it, albeit as it is so close to the centre of the wheel, its not the actual spokes its just solid alloy. If this makes sense. Confused

Unfortunately, I didn't get any pics before I got the wheels off and definitely had to get them off as the car couldn't be driven as it was.

I think some small spacers would cure the problem, but I'm not really prepared to go down this route.

I'm really gutted as I was sure that they would fit and really cannot justify buying another set of alloys when I have a £2,000 set of supercharged RR one's sitting in the garage. Not only that, but they really did look the business - just a shame that they squealed like a pig when I tried to move the car.

I don't know if this helps, but the alloys are from a 2006MY S/C RR and my new commercial is a 2007MY.

Oh, should've clarified that the wheels are the FFRR S/C one's in case of any confusion.

SV. The FFRR's you have will not fit the D3 (I guess you know this now. Confused )
The issue is the spokes design .(need to see a pic)

Wonder if you fitted some spacers would this help ? , they will move the inside face of the rim back from the caliper .
might give you the clearance you need.

I can tell you that the bracket that holds the calipers on the RR are different to the Disco /RRS. (I have the drawings in front of me at the moment ) but only due to the mounting hole centers, the caliper bodies are the same.

Sounds like wheel offset requirement for the FFRR must be different then?

Had a similar problem with some pre2006 FFRR rims i bought - fouled the caliper and did this:-



and did this to the rim (swarf):-


ended up getting RRS rims in the end, as they're cheap as chips on fleabay - which is an alternative Seymour-Vadge

any reason why just out of interest
do they cause a known problem on the d3
i run spacers on all my LR's accept the disco 3 and they have worked wonders in the past and made em all look alot better to!

slight confusion, original post said the wheels were from an SC FFRR. I thought the supercharged FF was post 06, in which case wheels ought to be OK, as hubs on post 06 were the same as RRS and D3. Its only pre 06 that are an issue.

Good point, would an S/C FFRR have Brembo's? So different caliper clearance maybe???
