In my experience, only non-competitive people ever stuck to the "non-competitive" requirement ... but you may well be right. it's the expectation that not trying doesn't mean you shouldn't get something.

I don't think, in the UK, we are used to having such a colossal issue forced upon us to debate amongst ourselves so passionately in the way other nations have had on the basis of politics, religion, territory, or even sport over the years. It's brought out the worst in some people.
Closer to home, personally I think the Brexit thread has polarised this site a little bit and has sucked some of the life out of it. Sadly. D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten
