2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3
Wheel weights

My dealer, T.H. White supplied HSE TDV6 with balancing weights on the outside of the alloy wheels. Can these be fitted on the inside as they spoil the appearance of the car? Is it normal to put weights on the outside of alloys?

My 'S' has them on the outside too.

All my other alloy'd cars have had then inside the rim... maybe its a LR thing or the way the wheels are designed ???

Hmmm...I noticed that too. I had a volkswagon that had them done the same way and when it came to have the tyres replaced the clamp pealed away the alloy. My Porsche has them on the inside of the wheel which I agree is a much more appealing and practical method. Surely the outside rim is also more vunerable, especially for an off-roader. 2005 TDV6 SE Silver/Black Manual + Alpine

I received this reply from my dealer concerning wheel weights....
The fitment of wheel weights to the outside of the alloy rim is the standard
fitment from Land Rover and the weights on the vehicle would were fitted
by Land Rover at the factory. Other new vehicles at the dealers including the Range Rover have this fitting. The weights have to be put on the outside rim in order to offer a true balance for that side of the wheel and because of the design of the rims you cannot achieve this with weights on the inside.

The weights on my Audi and BMW were bonded / glued to the inside. Guess it depends on the wheel eh ?

19" alloys on HSE also has the weights on all wheels clipped to the outside of the rim. Past experienc shows that if they are removed on new tyres being fitted & rebalanced they will leave a mark.
