Key reprogramming

I'm having some challenges with LR regarding reprogramming a new key fob.

Can the IID tool reprogram and bypass the LR software that is preventing LR themselves from talking to my car? Apparently it was flashed with some software in 2017 which means they can't program a new key.

I am weighing up a new key module (which I will need if I go the LR route) versus a IID.

You can guess my current thinking Wink

Thanks
Nick

Not yet but weighing up the cost from LR and buying a IID is looking favourable if it can do the job.

I've re programmed 3 sets of keys via the IID Tool and it's as easy as pie ( what ever that means). Apart from that the tool is a fantastic investment for all sorts of problems you may wish to sort out or test.

Hi Flack,

Thanks, this may work if I can't resolve before then.

Can you confirm if the IID can bypass the LR software flash that has stopped LR from talking to their own keyless module? Rolling Eyes

MY10 if that helps

Thanks
Nick

Nick I cant understand there statement as only LR software will write to LR ecu.??? Or is it a patch that they have applied to stop the car being stolen?, if so they must have a way to unlock it??

Didn't LR change to un programable key ECUs at some point on later D4s to prevent thieves coding new keys in and stealing cars. So if wanting a new set of keys its a new ECU?

I have an MY10 and have programed new keys in a matter of minuits to my D4 via the IID tool.

@Flack

Apparently it had a software patch applied in 2017 as part of the service. Now LR can't speak to the module to program a new key so they are saying they will need to replace the module with a new one and then program the new key along with the old one.

Honestly, you couldn't make it up Rolling Eyes

It's not lost case. See my recent threads - I was in worse situation, the only key I had and was supposed to work was not recognized neither by KVM nor for Emergency Start.

https://www.disco4.com/forum/key-fobs-nort...light=kvm,
https://www.disco4.com/forum/kvm-dead-181594.html

See the second thread - it shows the summary - KVM can be reprogrammed - based on other thread if you have one working key it should be possible to do it with IID tool - though I cannot confirm this if this applies to the locked KVM too.
There are other tools which allow that - usually in possession of locksmiths.
The more hardcore way if you have no keys working is to get KVM out of the car and get it reprogrammed by qualified locksmith.
This worked for me - confirmed though for whatever reason required SDD to reprogram something (not sure about details yet - see the referenced threads).

Hope this helps.

More info from LR:

'The module was not locked but when programming the new key, it forces a software upgrade (before they can proceed) and at that point locks the module.'

So I am still looking at a new key module if I go down the LR route which I am disputing that I should have to incur such costs.

However it would seem that many people have programmed new keys with the IID with no issues and I do have a working key so no barriers there.

Any further views before I go and buy a IID?

I'd suggest to validate it with the GAP team (guys behind IID). They are very helpful and super responsive.
You might want to verify software version on the KVM for which you might need IID. Not sure if SW ver might be checked without IID.

Sure, happy to help. btw. I've received great help here too and am of belief that knowledge sharing is power and creates even better community.

One more important detail to reitarate - if you're buying a new key from LR via official channel I've heard from LR authorized dealer that they are then obliged to provide KVM as part of this. It is described in one of their service bulletins.
This will apply to you, if you've EU sourced/spec car but did not for me as I've imported NAS spec car from US and LR turns around to such situation like mine with big middle finger.
You're in much better position. If you'd ask LR authorized shop to help with KVM they would charge you KVM + labor and it might be better to get smart around it as issue is due to their faulty design first allowing thieves to easily steal cars and then due to their laziness = cost optimization to just block by software the ability to add new keys even for the owner via official procedures.
Therefore going the route of acquiring new key and forcing them to do that programming (which means ordering new KVM, replacing it and programming keys) might be cheaper potentially than getting IID. But again you might be just after IID which will be helpful in other situations hence IID might be better option.
Anyway I'd validate options with both GAP to confirm if all should work in your situation as well as with LR specialist if acquiring key would mean they would take care of this and if that means KVM replacement, etc.

Based on what I've found out is that no one is able to validate which keys are registered in KVM outside of checking if key opens the car or not (by using it).

Latest from LR:

I have raised your concern with our technical team and I can confirm the following.

The Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM) is locked to prevent thieves from adding extra keys and stealing the vehicle, as a result once the KVM is locked new keys can not be added. So, in this instance the KVM will need to be replaced.

As a further note, all keys will need to be programmed at the same time, as once the programming is complete the KVM will be locked again.

I've sent this to Pat to have a read of too but anyone else finding that their IID can't reprogram keys or is it simply LR that have to order new modules every time a customer needs a new key? Rolling Eyes
