[For Sale] 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto £4250(190724-192)
I have at least been persuaded that it is time to move onto something smaller and more economical
This vehicle has been around a while and will be familiar to some still on here from a decade or so ago!
Various trials and tribulations are also documented on this fine site
She is 2005 HSE, originally sold on the Isle of Wight Jan 2005 and purchased by myself from the original supplying dealer in December 2006. Java Black 2005MY with Ebony interior. MOT until 25th March 2020. Mileage as at end August approx. 257,000
The vehicle has been well used and well looked after, There is a full Service History, LR dealers until July 2019 but I have just had the 255,000 mile service carried out at Keith Gott in Alton including another round of transmission and diff fluids. The vehicle in the best tradition of Trigger's broom is full of genuine LR parts, many of which remain in parts warranty. the gearbox was rebuilt as well this year as a precautionary measure and has the balance of a 2 year warranty remaining. the sills were replaced!
Bits that are not working:
Rear parking sensors can be intermittent
Centre Courtesy light doesn't come on with the doors although works (if anyone knows why would be grateful as it is extremely bugging!)
In my ownership the D3 has been kept garaged and run entirely on premium fuels. She has a BAS Remap that I am happy to leave or remove. Returns 30mpg + solo on a run, 26mpg-28mpg laden and 20mpg-24mpg towing.
She has been offroad; has been used extensively for people carrying and towing and has traveled widely all over Europe. Vehicle remains in daily use and is available to see in Hampshire/Surrey. the number plate in the photos is not available - back on LB54ONN
.
I will talk for hours given a chance!
Values of these things appear to be a moot point but I have her for sale at £4,250.
various other bits and bobs such as wheels and unused parts may be available as well by discussion.
All conversation welcome.
Many thanks for reading down this far!

My observation (and only my observation) in my opinion if I was in the market for a Discovery then the only thing that would put me off your would be the mileage.

Looks a great car and mileage doesn't bother me, I'm a great believer that cars that are used like this tend to go forever.
Without being rude though I would say the price is hugely outside of what someone will realistically pay.
Good luck

All fair points chaps
It is amazing the breadth of value across the various websites (there are "good condition" HSEs from £3k to £10+k). I am a keen believer in condition rather than age as for aero planes and boats! However someone has to know you to understand that for an individual vehicle.
It is interesting the mileage. Mine required lots of work around 200,000 miles. I know several people who have them around the 140/150 mark who really do no more than put diesel in and they are fine............ the key thing is use and maintenance!
It is only worth what someone will pay for it ultimately and I am happy to discuss as I now have the "lite" replacement. Having her sitting around doing nothing doesn't help me or the purchaser. I would like more than the "Autotrader" price though as I spent more than that on the service!end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Hi. The mileage will be the main thing putting people off. I bought mine with high miles but with over £9000 of receipts in its last 8-10 years so felt that all the big pricey jobs had been done. A friend of mine paid more than twice what I paid for mine on a lower mileage, lower spec and has spent more money than me and because it stands him at so much he has little choice than to pay really. Also my local land rover garage guy has bought one with high miles and loves it. he has also just done a service on a customers with over 300k on the clock and still going strong. You should stick a link on for the car throttle high mileage hero video. If its been looked after and had the services when required it should be good for many more miles.
good luck with the sale. hope i haven't gone on to much

Don't sell it You will regret it. You can get more economical cars and more reliable cars but none have the practicality or grin factor of a d3-4. I have tried just about every alternative and always find myself back in a discovery (currently on my 4th D4 (over 20 discoveries in total!!)
For what you would get for the same money there will be no comparison Previous Discos

I agree Marsie!!
however, circumstances these days mean I don't have as much time these days so I am reliant on others......and I do not currently have a rely upon person locally and travelling to for service and maintenance is not brilliant. They are high maintenance cars and you cannot directly replace them. However my wife cannot ignore the difference in cost between running her Mercedes and my (rather more complex!) Land Rover.
So I now have something inferior for a couple of years and I am trying to reset my expectations! It really is amazing that the the quietness and comfort of a high mile D3 is impossible to match in another vehicle (and that includes the D5s I have driven!), let alone the every day capability.
