Smart alternator and caravan fridge |
|
There seems to be a number of discussions on caravan forums about vehicles fitted with Smart alternators and stop/start not running caravan fridges properly. Some suggest that when a caravan is connected, the stop/start is disabled and that the fridge runs correctly on 12v.
Whilst I didn’t notice any issue with our fridge not keeping cool whilst we were travelling to and from the Med recently, the stop/start on the car operated in the normal way.
Can any gurus throw any light on this please? Does the D4 (2016) continuously power the fridge on 12v, or does the power drop out after a while which seems to be happening to folk with other makes of tow car.
Thanks.

Yes, that was one of the things I read too. Like you, I haven’t noticed anything with ours. Perhaps the author has generalised too much? It’s certainly stirred things up though, as the subject has cropped up on various forums.
Perhaps it’s one thing that LR have actually got right, or more likely, haven’t!
