Germany again this Easter - Berlin |
|
So 2 years ago almost to the day I had just booked the ferry to Hook of Holland, and put out a shout for ideas on campsites heading into Germany. Brian_DL13 Recommended a fantastic site that we used heading south.
Going back next Easter, this time heading east to Berlin via friends in Hamelin. Any recommendations for sites either near Hamelin or Berlin, or anywhere along the way. Same for things not to miss on route. Would also be pleased to hear about things to avoid!
Thanks in advance

In Berlin I would recommend a visit to the Reichstag.
You must register in advance and choose both an entry time and between a guided tour or just the dome. I believe both are free, access to the dome certainly is and I think for the dome only you can book just 10 minutes before entry, subject to places being available. Free audio guides available, great view of the city. There is a restaurant at the top where you can make a reservation for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Once you could walk in for a bacon sandwich but this may no longer be the case. Ice-cream available and not a tourist ripoff. Lots of museums depending on your interests. I enjoyed the Industrial museum and the Communications museum. The later particularly for its restored architecture. Stalinallee, (now Karl- Marx-Allee and Frankfurter Allee) could be of interest.
Berlin is a great city. Period tickets on public transport a good buy and Potsdam and Spandau only a short distance away.
