Carplay options? Opinions and experiences.
So apart from many ingenious modification plans that I simply lack the knowledge to perform It seems that the following options are at least working methods to get a half decent in car experience from the Land Rover entertainment system without losing any of the OEM functionality.
I know some Forum members have installed the Australian " Naviplus" system for adding Carplay.
Looks great as a system and seems to work well but at £599 plus postage plus import duties and VAT its a bit of a steep price to pay.
Xcarlink also do a system,
Range Rover/Land Rover/Jaguar 2011-2014 Apple CarPlay Android Auto Interface Kit
Seems to be the same but from a UK supplier.
Cost is £599 plus postage so cheaper, ( and easier to arrange returns / repairs if necessary) but still a little pricy.
AliExpress have a system listed that claims to support the MOST interface aswell as providing the Android integration.
Android Decoder Most Interface for Jaguar Cherry Evoque Range Rover Sport HSE Discovery 4 Frreelander Land Rover
Would need a seperate Carplay dongle, (which I already own).
Cost £336 plus postage plus import duties and VAT plus dongle at@£40
Have to say the Aliexpress option looks simple. Video shows it working well and if it ties in to the MOST interface then volume differences shouldn't be an issue but there is not enough information on how it integrates and how the MOST tie in works.
Anybody had experience with either of the last two options or know of any solutions I have missed that I should consider?
PS: Would have provided links to the items in question but am unsure if that is allowed here. If so let me know and I will add them.

The only one I have experience of is the Naviplus system (so sorry for not answering you question directly!). I installed this one month ago and absolutely love it. Customer service from Naviplus was excellent. Installation was fiddly but straightforward. Functionality is excellent and brings the D4 right up to date.

I have just noticed from your profile that your D4 is 2011. Just check that it is compatible as Naviplus told me it was suitable for 2012 onwards only. I'm not sure if this applies to the other two options too.

Thanks for the reply.
The car is an Oct 2011 but is the newer SDV6 with 8 speed box and the newer nav system, (square box interface if that makes sense).
Makes it tough working out what is compatible and what isn't.
Do like the Naviplus system and have been watching it for a long time now.
Do you have issues with the sound level being quieter over Aux than the other audio levels?

That makes sense about the model year. As you say, the square box interface indicates the later model.
The volume through AUX seems comparable to the other audio inputs. I rerouted the aux input from the rear console so all wires are hidden.

I’m also interested in getting Car Play in my 2012 SDVC HSE.
The update that I bought last year was out of date before I received it & I don’t fancy paying £200/pa for incomplete info.
I had the pleasure of using a rental car with Car Play installed & was pretty impressed with both the nav (via Google maps) & also its’ ability to read & reply to WhatsApp messages.

The new iOS 13 has improved the car play experience further, good update. Waze is still the best nav app on CarPlay though
