Cold Calling
I don’t get many, but yesterday was an exception, a guy with an Indian accent asking for Mr. Shaw. Evidently his firm had won £3500 PPI reclaim.
I told him I wasn’t Mr. Shaw. He replied who are you, I said not Mr. Shaw. He kept repeating the question and when I refused to say, he shouted down the phone, who the Hell are you, what’s your problem? At which point I told him to off, put the phone down with him still talking and promptly blocked the number.
The cold callers are defo betting bolder these days.

If I do not recognise the numebr I do not answer and it gets blocked, after a minth or so my phone never rings, it is great
As you are not mr shaw perhaps some verbal abuse is called for, after all he does not know who you are?

I don’t seem to have a problem with the landline, just the mobile periodically.
I am loath to get rid of the landline as I am one of those that leaves the mobile either in the kitchen the whole time with the ringer off or out of charge.
There’s a reasonable chance of me answering the landline, not so the mobile, so yesterday me actually hearing the mobile was vibrating was lucky or unlucky depending on how you look at it.

I kept them on the phone once, for over 25 minutes, claiming memory loss

you lot are far too nice to them. SWMBO thinks I will get arrested one day for the stuff I say.
mildest one is along the lines of "I'm glad someone believes me I'm not at fault ... the police think I killed (insert large numbers here) people". phone usually goes dead after that.
After receiving a lot of calls from "BT" warning us of problems with our internet, my wife asked "How did you get this number?! We are in a witness protection programme. I am going to have to report you to the FBI".
Nothing since.

Absolutely brilliant.
Years ago I got SWMBO out of a contract to buy a case of wine a month (original purchase Crimbo pressi for a relative) by saying she was a skint alcoholic and it would reflect on her recovery if she had to go through with the contract. I kept a straight voice and it worked. They even apologised and wished her well.
That said, SWMBO wasn’t happy with what I said when she got home. Got a thick ear!

Our cold calling hassles stopped dead when we got rid of the landlines. For some reason we don’t get any cold calling to the mobiles, and if did it would be easy to block. If we don’t recognise the number (have it stored in the phone) we don’t answer. Simples.

I got caught out the other day when a call came up 'withheld'. I answered as the NHS use this. An indian 'gentleman' asked for me by name. "I'm very pleased to meet you" he says, at which point I said "get lost" and put the phone down. The phone rang again with 'withheld' and in frustration I answered it and said "what do you want"? He replied "your money you f ". and hung up. Nice.2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Use BT Call Guardian to great success. Before we got that I used to interrupt the caller and in my best sanctimonious voice slowly intone, “before we start I would like to talk to you about Jesus”. End of call. Never failed2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

get these both at home and my mobile - most are now about the accident I had recently (and no I havnt had an accident). At home I generally ignore any numbers I dont recongise or the caller isnt in our caller list, not so much on my mobile as genuine calls can come from folks not in my adress book.
Last one started on about "my accident" and I'm afraid I lost it and said the only accident was the one going to happen when I found the f****r who was making the call to me
