Erratic central locking

Having a real problem with the locking, its different every time.
My Landie independent spent an hour this morning looking for the "Green wire splice" but no luck.
Is this splice the same for a D4?
He suggest that my car battery is and a bit low, sitting at 11.7 volts and thinks this may cause the problem.
Any thoughts please.

Hi Stick, thanks for replying.
Are you saying the bonnet catch sensor could cause my erratic locking problems?
Can it be cleaned or does it need replacing?.

if its one door not locking then suggest door actuator issue - if not then yes more complex issue

Bonnet catch sensor can cause the alarm to go off when locked, and also can cause inability to lock, often both. There is an old thread on here somewhere if you search. WD40 sometimes is enough (wasn't for me), there is also someone who bypassed it with a paper clip, or what I did- it is an easy replacement.

Update.
Tried the paperclip to short out bonnet catch plug...no difference.
the problem now seems to have stabilised...if I double lock with the remote then all except the drivers door lock okay.
If I lean in from the passenger side and lock the drivers door from inside and then double look with the remote then all doors are locked.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem may be please.

New actuator on order, £115 inc VAT.
But please can someone explain why a faulty actuator would effect the power folding mirrors?
And if I can lock door from inside the car, dose that not mean the actuator is okay.

The mirrors only fold in when the cars locked.

Okay, so by me locking the car from inside the mirrors are able to fold in.
But if I can lock the door from the inside dose that not prove the actuator is okay?

If you don’t change it asap it will lock and stay locked, then you will have a real big problem as the only way to access the lock and open the door is by taking the drivers seat out and trashing the door card Shocked my advice is do not lock it from the inside until it has been repaired/changed.

This is the usual culprit, the big one with the brass worm gear, looks nice and clean

Open it up and you will find this

Give it a good clean or fit one of these , now you can understand why it works intermittent Thumbs Up

 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks M3DPO I will see how that could work for me, problem is I have to park on the street in the middle of the town.
I guess I could take everything out of the car and lock the other doors. The alarm will go off if the drivers door is opened.

Hi M3DPO as you seem to have the knowledge, can you answer this question please.
Is the "green wire splice" on the D4 as well as the D3.
If so it would make sense for me to find it and fix it while the loom is uncovered.

Have you changed door card recently or the interior handle?
I have and now I have exactly the same symptoms, put new door actuator on and exactly the same...

I don’t recall a D4 needing the splice to be done Thumbs Up
