D4 Heating Issue POLL
Given there have been a few posts about heating issues on later Discovery 4's, I am curious how many people on the forum have experienced issues.
The main issues seem to be that the climate control only seems to warm your feet and that you also have to turn up the temperature after a while when it is cold outside to maintain heat.

Done on behalf of my folks. Absolutely nuts that LR can't get something as basic as heating sorted. TSB has helped but still not right.

Yes, I've had issues, but what is "TSB"?

Mine was rubbish but after having the TSB's applied twice it now works fine.
TSB - Technical Service Bulletin there are two relating to the problem, one to fix the external air temperature sensor and the other to fix the HVAC fault.

I collected my MY16 Landmark late July 16. Without looking it up I'm going to guess it was built mid 2016. I can't tell any difference in the heating system from the previous D4's. The external temp gauge corresponds with the readings from other two cars we own that have this feature.
So is this a typical LR pot luck random problem? Or does it only affect vehicles within a certain date range?2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Just a thought, when did the sensor attached to the screen behind the rear view mirror make an appearance? Does it roughly correlate to a significant spike in those who have heating issues? The sensor is described as a humidity and windscreen temperature sensor.
I've definitely noticed that it is tied into the heated front screen function (on my MY10 the front screen always turned off after exactly the same amount of time, on the MY16 it varies massively, presumably depending on the temperature of the screen, presumably as an energy saving function to turn it off once the screen is clear).
Anyway, the only purpose I can see of a humidity sensor would be to direct cooler air to the screen presumably to stop it misting up? If the arrival of the sensor correlates to some of the issues experienced then that can't be coincidence can it? I'm not saying that there isn't a different issue that the TSB fixes as well, but to me the operation of the system must fundamentally be different on models fitted with the sensor - or why bother fitting it?
My MY16 was built Aug 2015 and definitely has the issue compared to my MY10

LTB 00908 - External Air Temperature reading too high.
LTB 00963 - HVAC
I know of two fixes, one corrected the display showing 3deg high and the other was to stop the heater going cold after an hour or so. The latter was "fixed" by replacing a foam seal.
The heating is still lousy, mainly giving hot driver's feet.
Anyone know of other "fixes"?

Lots of threads all over the place for this issue. To me it seems a very simple issue, at least with all the vehicles I have seen. All the vehicles struggling for heat have been over-reading the interior temperature (as displayed on diagnostic equipment). Dealers can see this, IID and Faultmate owners can see this, as can JLR.
I've no idea how this error came about or why JLR are unwilling to fix it, but it is not a difficult fault to understand.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

You would assume they would look at it quickly, but they claim I don't understand how it works and there is no problem. They said they can no longer help me as it works perfectly in their opinion.
Clearly this poll means I am not mad to think something is wrong. But Land Rover CRC prefer to treat their customers as stupid and they don't understand how their car works.

My D4 MY16 went in today, they phoned to say they've done 00908 for the temp display but they have ordered the foam seal for 00963 fix, it should arrive tomorrow and I should have it back tomorrow afternoon.
My heating isn't as bad as some appear to be but I certainly have to turn the temp up to stay comfortable when it's colder outside. I'm not holding my breath as it doesn't appear to have fixed others but we shall see. However if it stays mild I may not be able to tell if it's fixed or not! Also suffers from a bit of misting which my D3 doesn't.
Apart from these issues I'm over the moon with it.Stu
