I notice that the supplier of audio kit to some of the Discovery3 models, Harman Kardon, is offering an ipod controller with a screen -see here
Perhaps they might be considering a similar version where the output is on the audio screen? I've sent an email regarding such, but won't be holding my breath for an answer. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

I have asked them. Hopefully we will find out how and if they integrate with the ICE they designed for LR.

Let's hope so. Otherwise I'll pick up one of the drive+play fellows next Easter, when I'm next in the 'States and use it 'normally'. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Wouldn't it be Alpine that you'd should be communicating with? H K make only the amplifier and speaker system, not the head unit.

But HK are the only ones making a noise about the D3 ICE system... even taking out magazine ads promoting the fact.
Fruk... I'll email my Alpine contacts... but they are less talkative than my HK ones.

Ah - gotcha! Thought they were based in Hemel Hempstead - that must be a commute and a half. Look forward to seeing your pictures of the mac mini in the glove box.... Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Simon - I'll do some digging for you as well. I suspect that it's not actually HK who are doing it, more likely to be Harman Becker. As you know, I have a slight tenuous connection with this!
If Woodman is reading the thread - do you think Mr. M (ex-HUK) might be involved in this? PM me and let's see if we can crack the code

So I'll eat my words, then it is HK. I wondered what that picture was in the annual report!
I think I know just the right man to ask...

Just got the polite reply:
Harman Kardon wrote:
Hi Alex,
I thank you for your interest in the Drive+Play. While it is possible
to incorporate this unit into almost every vehicle in the future, at
this time there are no plans for any OEM installations. This is simply
being sold as an after-market piece to be added to an existing system.
I am sure this will change in the future, but right now this is all that
is being offered.
I guess it's a kind of 'watch this space'/'never say never' - still, more encouraging than the usual 'no' that UK companies give. Those with closer sources are welcome to share. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Still no feedback at my end... so will dig further with others in my realm.
