Intermittent EPB problem
I bought my D3 HSE with 200 000 km on the clock and it started developing a fault on the rear left hand wheel (it is a left hand drive car). There would be residual EPB braking which results in hot lining smell and high vibration at speed. But the fault would not materialize every time I drive the car.
As a result, I have changed completely the breaking system and installed new pads and discs on four corners.
The EPB brake shoes are now brand new, clips and springs as well. I have calibrated the brakes the way it is described in the brake bible and to the best of my ability.
But the fault is still present and still on the same side.
Since everything is brand new, I can only conclude the defects comes upstream of the cable pulling the EPB lever.
In your opinion, what is causing this residual friction and what can I do to get rid of it?
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Philippe

Did you check the calipers for a sticking piston and also the slide pins on the carriers?

The slide pins have been changed at the same time I have changed the break pads.
But I didn't check the calipers piston sticking. How can you diagnose that?
I am still inclined to think it comes from the EPB system. I am under the impression that the heat waves and strong small come from the hub rather than from the pads. And also, when I have disassembled the EPB shoes, the paint and coating had disappeared and replaced by a white powder and heat traces all inside the disk and system.

common for the calipers to start sticking hard to tell when its not happening all the time but they are becoming quite common as an issue so for what i remember about £60 its worth changing as you have already changes everything else and i tried changing pins and it did not work changed caliper and all was well also when it smells tryto check disc colour Discovery 3 se gone

had this, brake shoes sized, EPB will jam soon as shoes wear down, replaced shoes all set up and fine now.
