This seems a bit odd!
If the timing was "very very out" something obviously had to be readjusted to
correct it, and then there's the question as to why it slipped in the first place.
Could it be the belt jumped?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Theres no way a timing belt would jump teeth if its fitted correctly unless a major event happend and it stripped teeth
Did they refit the old belt or a new one?

Timing belts will jump and I have seen it more than once I'm my lifetime. Bad/faulty tensioner will do it yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Thats what im mean, i wouldnt just refit the belt back on and hope for the best i would fit a brand new quality kit.
Very lucky not to do damage to the engine.
Just seen this post I have been away for a few days, Something is not right here, if it was the timing then why did it move, they just dont move for no reason, I did the belts and Oil pump on this car about 1,000 miles ago and all parts from Advanced and genuine.
Jack did you see the indy what they did, its hard to believe the timing moved that far and there is no damage if it did.?
Was the wiring checked when the fan came off, did it damage the loom at all.

I have had a faulty tensioner, which caused the timing to jump 2 teeth
New belt kit, timed up, and all was well. But timing doesn't just jump for no reason...My D3 Build Thread

Hi Jack, be careful the Vulcher's don't take long gathering around these parts
Seriously though, would you not have it investigated thoroughly, get it sorted and keep going?
D3's only need to be slightly out to prevent them from starting. If they are out much more than that its almost certain to have damaged the engine. In your case there seems to be no damage, so you are in luck it would appear! The important thing is to find out exactly what went wrong and rectify it immediately, or it will happen again. The cost would be relatively small if its only timing components.
It would also be very useful to all of us on here to know if there's a faulty component out there. That said there is of course no obligation on you in that regard, implied or otherwise!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

My concern is that ill be throwing time at it in labour to investigate the engine, plus time then and any parts to do the repair work.
Cant help but feel like its good money at bad on a car thats still done 175,000. MY2023 Discovery 5 R-Dynamic 3.0

If I was near you I would happily investigate it for you with labour foc. Sadly that not being so perhaps someone else on here might pick up the baton in the interests of Disco Science yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I would get a new belt kit fitted that should rule out most of the things that would put the timing out, I dont think you will have anymore problems.
im thinking that when you had the last belts fitted the camshaft sprocket bolts were not torqued up correctly allowing the cam to move slightly over time until it is picked up by the ecu.
This would not have caused internal damage and the engine should still be good for many more miles
