D3 Heated wheel conversion
I bought a heated D4 wheel a while back and did the BBS conversion. Lost cruise and had no heat through the wheel. I thought buying a new (older) steering ECU might solve it but where does it go?
Have opened the wheel up this morning and cant figure it out? Is in in the steering column?

You did get the power cable to run the heated wheel?
When I had mine fitted, I had to change the wiring loom in the wheel before the cruise etc would work.
Was £15 for a genuine loom off eBay.

I put a heated clockspring on it and used the cables bought from the forum shop for power.
Didn't get a new loom though

Did you manage to get this sorted? I’ve done exactly the same as you and have no cruise or heated wheel.

I've put it down to the fact I have a 2007 car and I bought a wheel from a 2016 car.
I need to get an older wheel but not sure from what year as the heated module changed

Black box states that 2010-2012 wheels are easiest to fit. On FB there was a dude who said he’s doing (going to do?) the same boards for a significantly lower price.

The ECU you are looking for is here:
You should be able to switch old for new - they are quite simple.
I am about to do the same thing but the connector on my older type ecu that goes to the heated switch is female whereas the newer one is male so I need to figure out the wiring to switch the plugs over.
Let me know how you get on with your conversion.

That is actually quite helpful as I bought the older ECU but for the life of me could not work out where to fit the old one as it is as you say a different connection and much bigger than the new style one.

Here is where I have got to with switching the old ecu for the new one:
As you can see there is an extra connector which isn't present on the <2016 ecu which I assume is for error reporting.
It looks like both the power and the connector to the heated wheel are the same plug and are wired the same.
The 3 wire plug that goes to the switch (pictured below) is different as it is the female (Yellow, Green, Blue) and opposed to male (Yellow, Brown, White). It is possible to open the plug and removed the pins and swap them over... at this point I am not sure how to wire them though.

Any joy with this. I am at exactly the same stage. I swapped the 3 pin male on the module for female connector from an old loom I had. Best guess was following 123 from module pins - they are marked on the connector. Plugged it all back in and..........no heated wheel.
I’ve raised the issue with bbs so we’ll see what happens.

Would be brilliant to get this done.
Really don't want to remove the wheel I have!

I am on holiday until the 26th so not had a chance to play with my wheel yet.
I really can't see why it wouldn't work if wired correctly, do you have a multi-meter to check if the switch is working correctly and that the ECU has power?
As far as I can tell the device is just a smart relay that will switch off dependent on the feedback / resistance from the heated wheel... which is why there are four wires going to the heater element. It could be the device requires a resistive signal from the switch to turn on but I doubt it as it is just a binary on or off.
Best
