I use JAS Landrover near York. Yes it’s a bit of a trip but even factoring in fuel it’s still cheaper than using LR. Also Joe is widely regarded as one of the best LR technicians in the country. I’m booked in for my 5 year service on my D4 plus transfer box fluids and diff oils. Been quoted £360. Happy enough with that

what are peoples estimated costs for doing the following?
gearbox flush (8 speed)
diff oils
transfer box
ive been quoted £200 for my next service by Maltings near Doncaster but I also want to get the above done as my D4 is 9 years old this October with 105k currently.
I had the 3+ main service and cambelts done by JCT600 LR in Doncaster last October at 98k which was £1190 all in.

Ok; I went back with the pricing table and they said “ahhh - we can do that service for £495; but it won’t be added to your service records” .... I asked why is that, and what followed was the biggest load of complicated babble I’d ever heard. Just pathetic.
So I’ve asked for a manager to call me back as it feels like they’re charging an extra £200 or more for the same service; but they will add it to the service history...
Everyone; be warned... make sure your garage is adding the service to the official service records; to keep the value in the car.

I'd certainly take them to task over this.
Clearly they've been trying to rip you off, got found out and are trying to wriggle their way out.
If I were you, on that basis, I wouldn't want them to lay a hand on my vehicle.
I'd look for somewhere else.
My personal view is that main dealer servicing used to be the best versus the generic local garage.
However there are so many good LR independents about that i reckon they surpass main dealer servicing.
I'll be looking to travel over 100 miles to an LR independent when my service is due.
I hear too many negative stories re main dealers that it's now driven me away from themI was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

TVLR are very good but their prices are the same as a main dealer these days
Yes I’ve noticed that......also don't think Mastora are as competitive as they used to be versus main dealers ?"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I would never use a main dealer to service again. Use a good independent whose livelihood rests on good service and customer retention. It's not easy to get it right but main dealers are useless!Visitor from fullfatrr.com

Integrity is everything. Most people have lost faith as there is constant feeling of being taken for a ride.
Independent's value their customers, and realise that they will get return work and potential free advertising..

TVLR have 25 people employed now, so I was told the other day. Obviously the prices aren't putting people off. But the only dealer competition is Stratstone, so I guess that might have something to do with it

I always ask the garage when leaving the car for service for a copy of the updated service record from JLR's website to be printed & given to me when I collect the car. It's never been a problem.

Brakes take a little longer, but I've heard tales of supposed dealer serviced cars have EPB issues, and these sound like they've been neglected at the inspection.
The dealers just rely on the unknowing and non mechanically competent customer.
No wonder the Indy's have a loyal following with fair and reliable work for fair money.
Dealer near me, when asked have they checked and adjusted the handbrake when it was last serviced they said they don’t touch the handbrake on a service.

I remember taking my first D4 in to my local dealership for new brake pads and discs all round, they MOT 'd it for me a couple of months later and gave an advisory for pads on the rear being near the limit, I'd done around 2k miles on the pads I'd paid an extortionate amount for them to fit a couple of months before ~ It's amazing to think how much ***t they must get away with.

Surely they can't do this price for every service though? For example both front and rear cambelts need changing for the D4 at 112k (7 years) - that's not going to be done for 360 or 495 surely?
My 10 year service is coming up and my local LR dealer has quoted me 1188. I got this quote before I saw the fixed priced sheet. They're not going to knock that down to 495 surely? 10 year service needs oil, pollen and air filters, coolant change, renew ancilary drive belts and front and rear diff fluid change which an Indy has quoted me 720 for.
