| Repairing a hole in the side of a caravan. |

As many do my Bailey (aluminium skin, polystyrene insulation) has a door retainer to hold the door back.
The door part is not a problem, it is just self tapped on but the van side half I presume has pulled out some time in the past. It has been repaired using rubber Well nuts. The resulting hole is far larger than the M3 or M4 Rivnuts I would prefer to use. The Well nut has a relatively thick flange stopping the door retainer sitting flush on the skin.
If I have to I will re-use Well nuts although one had pulled right through. Does anyone of the engineering geniuses on here have a suggestions of a flush fitting alternative before I go back to the original solution A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

What is behind the side panel at that point? Alternativly, it could be simpler to plug existing holes and finish off with an appropriate sticker, and refit the door retainer higher up. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Why not reuse Well nuts but add a layer of suitable sealant to fill the gap? With the right stuff, the Well nuts would chiefly be to keep it in the right place whilst the sealant cures, so if 1 of them is a bit loose it's not an issue. .

I was just hoping for an Idea I hadn't thought of.
The other side is a plain wall above a a worktop, my dislike of the Well Nut solution does not extend to spoiling that.
I have ordered new Well Nuts and I will modify the bit that sits on top of the nuts to clear the nut flange. A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Could be an easier job to make a packing piece washer slightly thicker than the well nut head with appropriate sized holes in it. In fact, caravan dealers sell such things in little packets.
