Roof load capacity

Do these designs take into consideration the max roof load capacity quoted by Land Rover? I have always been curious how conservative their load ratings are.

I don't think you would have to worry regarding the roof not being able to take the weight, in theory the roof will be able to take the weight of the car.

I couldn't get a comprehensive answer whether the Land Rover bars could take the weight as there is general confusion over dynamic weight and static weight. I've seen pics of Land Rover bars with roof tents and it looks fine and then I was also told by a forum member on here that their bars failed with a roof tent on. I bought a Front Runner rack to save any worry....

Look at Land Rovers own pics of G4's and the like loaded up, they seem not to even care about their own ratings for their own expedition rack, never mind the roof giving in...

I've not seen a static load for the Disco just a dynamic load

Its all a bit "fun and games" anyway as certain european Market defenders had a 75KG roof load statement but the same car in ROW trim (no suspension differences) had a 120kg roof load statement

Good points. I think what I saw in the past was the rating for the factory cross bars. I agree, the roof itself is capable of handling a lot of load.

I am guessing most roof tents mount to something more substantial than small cross bars.

I just made my own roof bars that are clamped on to my rack, they have served me well over the last three years since I made and fitted them.
The tent just slides on to them, then use the u-bolts clamps to clamp it to the bars.

Flack Thumbs Up
