disco 3 towing electrics

Hi I have 2 Landrover fitted 7 pin towing electric sockets fitted to my 54 plate poverty spec disco3 and would like to convert to a single 13 pin socket is it as simple as a straight swap or will I need to reprogram the system.
Thanks in advance

That's what I did when I got my new Caravan (get an adaptor). The adaptor means you can still tow things that have a 7 pin towing socket, also leaves the car as standard.

But that would mean his caravan would only get the 7 pin connector, so no good getting an adapter for towing it.
Being a complete newbie to Landrover’s and just finished wiring my 13pin tow electrics up, I’d say the physical aspect will be easy to move wires to a 13pin socket. However extending some wires might become an issue. You planning on just buying a 13pin socket and wiring it up or getting a replacement 13pin socket with loom? Thankfully discos are plug and play fittings for the tow electric loom.

As for the programming, I’d wait for the knowledgeable ones to come. I’d think you wouldn’t need to as you have dual setup already.

The adaptor plugs into both 7 pin sockets on the back of the D3 just like this Link

Ah, now that makes a lot more sense. Thanks for clarifying.

On a side note, I’m loving this forum with the wealth of knowledge and great members.

Cheers

If using an adapter with a caravan that has ATC fitted, it will not work.
I know this because i have used an adapter.
Just about to change to 13 pin on my disco 4. Doing some research and it seems there can be issues if the trailer also has led lights.

Sorry but you are wrong. I have ATC fitted to my TinTent and it works fine. All the adaptor is doing is combining the two 7 pin sockets into 13 pin. No extra electronics or any thing.
We are talking a D3 here don't know if it's different for a D4

As i only have a single 12n electrics the adapter plug will not operate ATC. This is the single adapter type.
I presume you have 12n and 12s and are using the double into 13pin adapter?
