Ctek charge point
Hiya
Was wondering if there would be an interest for the following modification , to be able to plug the CTEK in via a 28mm round connector ,which can be installed in the rear bumper towing socket cover or maybe at the front grill,
The diffference with this is if u drive away accidentally the lead will automatically disconnect from its charge post connector
Just thought I would ask before hand so if there is interest can ensure i take plenty of pics stage by stage inc the materials req
Have been working on this for ages and just wished to share with my fellow mates and that it may be of help
Many thks

Dead easy to plug in. You don't even need to see it Kev

Hiya
It’s for the 12 volt CTEK charging lead , Basically found a connector that is 28mm in diameter , will be fitted it into the towbar electrics panel so that is don’t do any harm to the bumper etc etc , u could also be fitted at the front , where ever really
So in effect if u forget to disconnect this lead as u drive forward it will disconnect without ripping the ends off
The CTEK extension lead I’m making up is 5 x metres long and rated at 29 amp because it therefore has abit more strength in the wire , along with getting 5 x metres of 3mm stainless steel cable to which I’m going to secure onto the cable for a bit more extra protection
One end will have the quick disconnect connector and the other end a 12s socket because I have a 12s socket wired up on the front of the house
But of course it’s up to the individual what they decide to do
It was also a way of not having to struggle plugging and u plugging the CTEK lead because of my back and wished to keep it as simple as possible
I have taken pics from the get go in case it was of interest , because I’ve been helped so much I thought it was a very small way to share what I’m doing
I will remove the 12 socket , as there’s no point being there it’s only has numbers 3 and 4 connected
I’m about to drill the hole in the socket cover
Plus one , also thought that was an excellent way ref Watkins and the connection
Also bought some of the unslit flexible conduit

Is it something like this you are talking about but obviously rated correctly.

Solid state relay which is triggered from the boot light and swtiches the 230v from the charger to a 230v buzzer. All mounted behind the left hand rear panel in the boot.Kev

I'm a bit concerned about a 240 v feed to the car - I have my CTEK in the garage, with a 12 volt feed to the car.

Sorry I thought it was the 12v charge lead that would be the breakaway not the 220v mains lead.

Same here, def don't like a 240v cable trailing into the D4.
So a wee bit of work and this is now my ctek charging system.
Mounted the ctek unit to the wall of my rickety rackety wooden garage [it's work yet to progress ]
[system showing low as I just plugged in after nearly a week of the D4 sitting unused].
Bought a ctek extension cable, cut both M&F plugs off and *soldered to the new cable.
*before soldering, I ran it through some white [easily visible] poly pipe to minimise the cable being a trip hazard.
The ctek connector is connected to the battery with the plug just poking out the side of the battery box.
Cable is tucked down under the top edge of the grill, so allows complete closure of the bonnet.
Finally, I made a removable "reminder" tag out of an old plastic buckle, secured with velcro that fits around the steering wheel when the ctek is plugged in.
a couple of points:
1] I bought a ctex extension cable rather than cut into the ctek unit's cable, just in case I need to return under the 5 year warranty period - they can then see the unit hasn't been tampered with
2] 10m cable allows me to plug in wherever I park on my large gravel parking area.
3} I also made a short 2 meter cable I can connect to the ctek to charge my wee runabout when the D4 battery is topped]. Made this from a redundant ctek power socket accessory I bought but can't use....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Hiya
This is how far I’ve got, fitted the connector into the bumper panel , have put some conduit onto the 12 volt charge lead , still have the connector in the front of the house and charger in hallway
Connector is rated at 15 amps
Think it might be a good idea to fit s home short lengths of wire onto the bumper cover, also wondering about fitting the wire to the length of the charge lead to add some extra strength
Put a plate inside the cover which are just bird box plates
Hopefully it may be of interest
