locked it and went to get swmbo, came back out to go home, but still would not select.
opened drivers door and shouted bloody land rovers shut door and it turned

Auto dial?
Not overly clear what an 'auto dial' is. But I have discovered with my car that if you lose the brake vacume (maybe you have pressed the brake with the engine off, got out to check you locked the house š) then when you try again the pedal doesent go down enough to allow the engine to start. You really have to press it like mad to get it to move enough to allow the inhibiter to function.
If your on about something else then please ignore this message.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch š

I think you might have a faulty brake pedal switch, they are notorious for failing on Discovery 3s and 4s. If it can't see the brake pedal, it sometimes uses brake pressure as a back up which you'd get if you pressed harder on the pedal.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

Its the gear selector on a MY2012 and newer.......and you need to press the brake to start it.

It could be the interlock on the rotary switch, I had the same problem but mine didnāt rectify itself, I had to strip it down and lock the interlock off by locking it back in the off position with a screw until a new rotary switch arrived. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I picked up a S/H rotary seleccter for my 2014 commercial from the bay for not a lot of money, this was just because I wanted a working green LED circular ring which has now also packed up! However at least I have a known working selector as a spare.Stu
