oil spec and quantity
my oil level is showing about half but I cant get in for a full oil service for another couple of months yet.
which oil does mine need please and how much to top up from approx. half way point. its a minefield of similar 5w/30 FS oils out there as far as I can see.
2011(61) SDV6 255 8 SPEED (im assuming no DPF)

Check and check again, but think you will find any 5/30 that meets Acea C3 spec will do.
If desperate there is an old saying, any oil is betetr than no oil, and it it 100 percent true.

roughly how much to top up from half on the 'dipstick' ?
Hellfrauds currently have 30% off Magnatec 5W30 C3 4L stop/start (mine doesn't have stop/start though) and their compatibility says it MAY not be suitable.

Advanced factors has some guidance on volumes and grades in the reccommed service parts... However just used the ebay discount 20% code PAID20 to knock a tidy amount of some 5w 30 A5 for my D3

I would have assumed you DO have a DPF fitted. C1 grade for a full change, C2 will be ok to top-up until service.

Should have a DPF pretty sure all SDV6 had them. Should also tell you on the display how much it it needs when it gets low enough. 0.5 litre is figures ive seen it on here but needs to be below halfway, I’ve seen, not on mine, only ever once added oil between services, two bars down took approximately a mug full.

Ford WSS-M2C934 if you have a DPF.
I believe it’s usually considered on here not to top it up unless the car asks for it, then you just put in the amount it asks for.

Sorry for the small hijack - but as a new D4 owner - what are the tell-tales that a regen is occurring ?

ok thanks for all the replies.
sounds like the general consensus is just to leave it until it tells me to top up with a specific amount... I had no idea the D4 did this.
further to this ive just had a figure back of around £460 to change the diff oils, transfer box oil, engine oil and filter, pollen filter, and full diagnostic check
they don't do gearbox flushes but have recommended a place in Lincoln that charges around £270.
once I work out some figures to budget (im in the process of moving house as well) ill book it in and hopefully the change in all the oils will bring it back Alive (clue is in there as to who the garage is )2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten
