DL renewal was £520 but included European Fully-Comp (only 3rd party as standard) and Euro Zone breakdown/recovery.
As I don't need breakdown cover in UK, plan is just buy it when I need and make sure it does everything I want. It's priced at £99 ... remove it in the self-serve menus and renewal is thus £420.
Comparison sites all coming up with ~£255 so ring DL and see what they can do for Fully Comp UK and Europe ... £277 !!
Told them I wasn't renewing with them because of the £420 dropping to £277 "so why can't you do that in the first place and why can't you now match what others are offering ?"
Go on comparison site, follow link to Hastings (not the Hastings super-cheap offering) as it appeared to tick all the boxes and ...
suddenly all the prices go up and I'm looking at about £395. Bear in mind, I refreshed the quotes only an hour before at the most.
Back to Direct Line. 15 minutes waiting for call back and and lo and behold, the £277 is NOT fully comp in Europe !
After a lot of discussion, eventually got what I want ... £303

Just had the same saga, and my end result was with my Bank, Tesco, who I went direct for a quote, as then cheaper than the compare sites, might be one to try?

Just got my home renewal in the mail —31% increase over last year. Inflation has been high, but at a paltry 7% comaparatively, and of course none of my liability limits have increase at all. So I’ll be making lots of inquiries this week.
And of course last month I renewed one of my auto policies and again asked about a mileage discount. Previously I was told it was not available, but this time it was and saved me 10% on 2 cars. I guess I paid for it, and then some, with my home policy. 2008 LR3 HSE, 4.4L V8

My car insurance is due on 23rd March so I've been ringing around and getting quotes from comparison sites, quotes ranged from £650 to £1400 for my Evoque P250 First Edition. So my car insurance is due 1sr April for the D3. Renewal quote has gone up by £50 while all the comparison results have gone down by £40, so went to contact Aviva to see if they could do anything about the price…..great customer engagement before you even get a chance to ask!

Just dropped A-Plan for my Disco as it jumped up £200 (350 to 550-ish in round numbers).
So did the old comparison thing and ended up with a Lloyds Bank quote.
I ended up paying £278 but things got weird for a while until I got the better of them - see if I can explain.
1) Quote from a comparison site.
2) Transferred me to Lloyds.
3) Noticed my driving experience years wrong so adjusted it - it jumped up £75 !!!
4) Not having that so dumped the quote and started again, having corrected as many details as I could at the comparison questionnaire.
5) Transferred me back to Lloyds. So far so good.
6) They asked for my driving licence number - it jumped up £75 !!!
7) Dumped the quote and started again.
8) Comparison back to Lloyds but did not bother to add licence details as it was not mandatory.
9) In all I dumped the Lloyds website five times (sh!t got personal and I was on company time in any case ), but I realised as soon as I adjusted something, even the excess, the price jumped up.
10) I paid £278 in the end, logged onto my brand new Lloyds account, adjusted a few parameters (after paying) and now all is correct.
Moral of the story: Make sure you get the comparison data correct before taking the quote and touch nothing (unless it is bad enough to void the policy) once you are transferred.
I like a challenge and I am have quite the patient streak. I look forward to the next renewal on the E36 M3 "Track day running - Don't put your foot back on the accelerator until your absolutely sure you don't have to take it off again"

And just remembered.
According to Martin Lewis's money programme thingy, the best time to get a quote is 21-days from renewal. Before then the risk is 'too far ahead' and shorter than that 'you look desperate'.
I have my diary set for this 21 days for all three vehicles and the house.

Tried the Martin Lewis trick, it didn’t work. I got my cheapest a week before renewal.
Mind you, I think Lewis has lost his touch, there’s been a few bits of duff advice tbh, but then he made his money and continues to do so.

Been on the “merry go round” this afternoon ……… and it wasn’t too bad a ride.
Both wife’s Juke and my D4 insurance needs renewing by 23rd.
Used Go Compare and after logging in, all detail was stored and the online form pre filled (from last years visit).
So just had to make a couple of adjustments and hit the “get quotes” button.
Got both cars insured fully comp at £277 Aviva & £285 Churchill (respectively) with all our requirements
e.g. hire car, legal fees, protected no claims, £250 excess (and that’ll be paid free by Go Compare).
Documents all now available (and ready to print as required).
So all in all, wasn’t as bad as expected.

Checked a few other insurance companies and quotes were slightly more but still in the same region

All you can say with certain is the prices and companies are different for everyone.
I’ve got e Disco with LV. £300 excess. Price was £275 last year, £375 this year. Phoned up, £20 off, making it £355. Their best price.
Lowest on price web site is Hastings Direct who are £355, all the same apart from only £250 excess, but £33 going via Top Cash Back via Money Supermarket.
A thing to note is no cash back going direct to insurers, you can only pledge the money to charity, seems to be a government legislation. You can get a bit back via comparison sites.
So it’s stay with LV or go HD?

I've stayed with LV for past 15+ years.
Nearly always the cheapest after i've been on comparison sites or if they are a little more i call them and usually get a slight reduction.
Don't mind paying a little bit more as they seem to have a reasonably good reputation.
