Hi guys.
Today I started again...
I’ve timed it up by the book. Cranked the engine by hand 8 times....then replaced the tool in the flywheel and cam holes. The tools slotted in perfectly.
The car started first turn of the key and never sounded as smooth or quiet. I left it running and revved it for around a minute. Then switched it off and on again and nothing again.
The engine cranks but won’t fire. I know the timing top and bottom is spot on.
What’s going on here guys?
Any suggestions what to do next?
Thanks

It may be completely unrelated, but I've had a far do something similar, albeit, not after a cambelt
On occasion, it wouldn't start. Gets recovered in to us, behaves perfectly. Send it back, won't start the next day. Logging a cam sensor code
New sensor didn't cure it, but overlaying the wiring did My D3 Build Thread

Overlaying the wiring?.... what does that mean?lol
All the wiring is a real mess and doesn’t look professionally finished , but I’ve had the car a year and never had this issue before. I wonder if I’ve loosened something somewhere.

Cam sensor or crank sensor. ...or both? Where can they be found?

Cam sensor is in the passenger head.
At the front. Not easy to see as the cable comes out the side
Crank sensors are a nightmare to change on these.

I did unplug something around there when I was replacing the power steering pump. I plugged it back in but maybe damaged a pin or wire. I’ll have a look tomorrow.

FIXED.
So today I stripped it down yet again. (I reckon I could do this blindfolded)
With the flywheel locked and the os cam locked and the ns locked (but on the ) I undid the 3 bolts on the cam pulley and then just moved the main cam bolt very slightly (felt like a couple of degrees) until the pin was in straight. Then tightened up. And torqued the tensioner.
Then while all 3 locked removers the crank bolt replaced it with another new one and torqued to spec.
refitted the motor and started on the button each time. Went for a 20 mile drive, no issues and no codes .
many thanks to you guys for your excellent advise.
