Warranty Direct
Needed to have front suspension bushes replaced recently, and the indie garage was doubtfull about WD paying up. However, when I picked the car up they said WD were great, asked for a lot of info, but agreed the job no problem. Only thing was they applied the excess etc to both sides of the car, classed as two separate jobs! Bit sneaky, but at least I got the money paid in a couple of days later.LR 4 se

Happened to me as well - but it is two jobs.
To be fair, they also reimbursed me for work which I'd had done and hadn't thought to claim at the time. They could have turned around and said that it hadn't been pre-authorised, but they paid out.
I've found them to be very good.

I used a VAT-registered garage. I think the garage talked to WD about the problem and got authorisation to proceed. I paid the garage and reclaimed the money.
It was wear and tear. They also paid for two front wheel bearings at another time. Again, no quibble.

I’ve found warranty direct very good. If the part is listed as covered item, they pay.
I use my LR Indie. They do all the phoning up, and sorting out. I pay the garage, and WD pay me back, minus the claim excess.
I’ve just renewed mine again.

With warranty direct cover you have to of had a service carried out at a vat registered garage prior to cover commencing.
Now does the service have to use genuine parts or can OEM be used and will they still pay for repairs or use it as a get out?

I only ever had my Disco serviced once at the main dealer, because it was part of the purchase deal. It's been an indy ever since, and WD has been fine with them.
To be honest, I think it would be quite hard to find an indy that isn't VAT registered. The threshhold is £85k turnover - that's not a huge quantity of Disco services and repairs. If an average service / MoT / repair is £1k and takes 2 days, you're only talking about 170 days' work over the year. If they supply tyres etc., that's part of the turnover figure.
Given that, I'd be suspicious of any indy (or other business) of a decent size which wasn't VAT registered, unless they were in a business which was exempt or outwith the scope of VAT.

It’s not the vat registration I was questioning its whether genuine or OEM parts can be used at service time and not invalidate the Warranty Direct warranty.

OK, right.
I'm not aware of WD making original LR parts a requirement, but I've never considered it one way or another.
Maybe someone else has experience of this?
(My garage does tell me what parts are being used, but honestly, if they told me that my blue smoke reservoir needed topped up, I'd have to agree with them as I know next to nothing about what goes on under the bonnet.)

I have had WD claims work done on my D3 and have used a mixture of OEM & Genuine parts for servicing and had no problem with any claim . All they needed was evidence that VAT registered garage had carried out the Service in a timely manner.

I think as long as you don’t change the spec of the service parts, they are fine with it. So if it’s a part designed for the D3/D4, then it’s ok.
I’ve been with them for 4 years now, and just renewed for another two years. Unfortunately, my current cover level will end at 130,000 miles, but they said they can cover after that, but with a different cover level.
I’ve just dropped form extra care, to secure care due to the mileage, but the renewal cost was only £500 a year, with betterment removed, £240/hour rates, and emissions cover, so was happy with that!

£240 per hour seems wrong. I think it was capped at £140 per hour when I last had WD policy.

Mine's capped at £72/hour - which is fine for my indy garage. The higher rates are more for fancy dealerships with shiny showrooms and a salesforce to support.

And its £72 inc VAT
When making a claim, I've only ever been asked for service hsitory if applicable. Never have they asked for evidence of genuine parts used
Same for replacement of the actual parts, they make no stipulations about what is fitted for repairMy D3 Build Thread
