Guys
have any/all of you got the heated front screen, as in my old TD5, none of the "hand held" nav units would pick up a satelite through the windscreen (also heated), so although I'm keen to add a nav unit to my TDV6 S (I like the look of the NavMan 550 as it fits the gap better), I dont really want to be mucking around with getting an external GPS arial connected.

PS - is the wiring already in the loom for the nav arial on all models, irrespective of whether nav is fitted or not?Volvo XC90 B5 Plus Dark

I have a Globalsat BT 308 bluetooth receiver for my pda based tomtom and have no problems with signal, just place it in the corners away from the wires in the heated screen.Zermatt silver 06 reg.

I use a Garmin ETREX on green lanes, and find it is slow to aquire the sats if I switch it on and place on the dash straight away. If I balance it on the electric window switch panel on the door panel top to aquire, it is much quicker.
Once the sats are aquired, it is fine on the dash.

I run my Mitac Mio Sat Nav unit with built in satellite receiver with no problem through the heated screen.

To anyone concerned about heated screens interfering with portable Satnavs - the new Tom Tom One works really well in the D3. No problems with reception whatsoever.

I can endorse that, they hit at least 9 stats as well.

Yes, I use a variety from TT GO300 to TT GO700 and the Ipaq PDA system with TT Nav 5. The TT series appear to be very powerful now and bring in at least 9 satellites even through the Disco 3 screen. The Ipaq with blue tooth is useless, but with a Holux link to a Road Angel using the Road Angel as the satellite collector it is brilliant even through the screen.
Another point is that the TT 5 Europe maps work on the TT GO series.

gps aerial. not required?

Ive installed my GPS in this ideal position to.
Mines an IPAQ 3970 with a navman sleeve.
Reception is much better than it was in our 200 series (disco 1 ?)
I can only conclude that there is a retransmitting aerial installed somewhere.
On the top of the dash in my S there is a square grill with a plastic dome, any ideas what this might be?
If this is for GPS, then why does the Se and the HSE have a spaceship on the roof?
I surpose you expect somthing for all that money.

The optional "spaceship" (as you call it) pod on the rear of the roof is the antenna for the PTI phone cradle system (and, I think, satellite radio for regions where that is available.)
