Hastings Direct .the computer says NO 😡

Got in touch with Pete at bell autos about getting the old girl a tune, did all the Pre tune updates and called insurance today to be told Hastings won’t insure me if I go ahead 😡 50 years old clean licence 20+ years full no claims doing 5k a year, just paid for the full year in May so I’m looking to change just haven’t got time before I go away My premium is £300 per year and that’s mainly down to swimbo who drivers her Q3 like she’s on a welsh rally stage running into a polish numptie who just stopped on the m69 slipway for no reason and demanded £500 cash long story but insurers paid him out 😡 any recommendations on insurers gratefully received o

Can't recommend as such when 'mods' included so one of your usual 'compare' sites is best place to start.

Coincidentally I was with Hastings a few years back and I noticed an asterisk next to the question on modifications.

On clicking 'more info' it was asking what factory fit options were fitted to the vehicle. I explained the car was 15 years old so I had no idea what was factory boggo spec and optional extra.

I had a response asking me to answer the question "to the best of your knowledge" and "none" was acceptable in that case Shocked

Can you imagine an insurance claim wheedled out of "because you didn't inform us of the 'smoker pack delete' option on your vehicle"............

I find this interesting - what happens if you purchase a car with a re-map already done and not declared, after a couple of owners it may effectively become unknown as a modification. No insurance company is even going to know in such circumstances.

If I purchase a car that has been re mapped (and have no knowledge of it) what happens if I have an accident and the re map comes to light (not sure how - analysis of the ECU maybe?) is my insurance void?

Just insured with HD for the D3 V8 at £170. Went to insure with my PHEV but since its owned by the Wife and driven by me they had a bit of a hizzy fit.

A-Plan are fine with declared mods like this. LV= have also been similarly accommodating in the past - my Freelander has a lift kit, wheel spacers, oversize tyres, dual battery system, remap, induction kit, seats replaces, additional lighting, vinyl decals etc etc etc, all declared and both insurers were fine with these and provided a schedule that listed everything.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I always found NFU sensible about mods on my Defenders.

Sadly it's a bit of a postcode lottery with them on price these days.

NFU, the cheapest for me and brilliant with claims. As above though, highly dependent on your postcode and age.

Another for A-plan. Thumbs Up

I was with Hastings prior to having my D3 remapped in June, I didn't bother asking them to quote as the A-Plan quote was lower with the remap than my annual premium was without it Shocked

The ABI policy on ' modifications'.

Fascinating and somewhat eyebrow raising that factory fit 'options' are also 'modifications'.

Not sure it helps anyone much but interesting read..

Insurance Companies....

Had a very interesting discussion when talking to my last insurance company about what all the extra bits on the G4 Spec D3 meant, and that everything was fitted at the factory so it technically wasn't "modified"...

It took a while for them to accept that it was "as it left the factory" and we had to provide the build sheet from Landrover, the specification from the G4OC Website and lots pictures before they would relent.

At least its appropriately insured and includes all the equipment and not just classed as a 12yr old D3 that happens to be Orange....it was painful at times though. Whistle

We've got the D3 and a FFRR insured with Admiral Multicar. No problems at all when informing them about the D3 remap, all they wanted to know was what power increase % was, 1-10%, 11-20%, 21-25% etc. Can't say they are particularly cheap but we do live next to a renowned robbers paradise which seems to more than double the premium from my last address.

That could be very interesting, regarding vehicles not built to specification anyway. I have had two , Land Rover One Tens, one having had the wrong seats fitted, the other no seat belt anchorage's for rear seats and sundry other errors. I cannot see how a subsequent owner can possibly know if anything is none standard. Also most manufacturers in the small print state they can alter the specification at will , so whats original?
