Msv2 and Windows 10

Hi, has anyone got vehicle explorer for the MSV2 running on Windows10? I have asked on the BBS forum but have not received a reply. It seems that they only support up to W7.

I did get it to install but get error 75 when running it and MSCOMCTL.ocx error when trying it as administrator.

Any ideas or should I just put it in the scrap box and get a licence for my IID tool that I got for the D4? (It was less money than a D4 upgrade for the MSV!}

Geoff.

I had a lot of trouble with my MSV2 and it went back and forth to Cyprus a number of times - all at my expense. I then had my MSV2 stolen from my car. BBS refused to supply me with new hardware and said I had to buy new hardware and the licences again!!
I purchased an IID tool and have had much better service from Patrick at Gap Diagnostics.

I still have mine and use it now and again, it needs Windows 7 to run without errors.

Run mine on Win10 and do not have a problem, all I do is run it as administrator must say though BBS seems to be almost non existent, very little traffic on their forum and very few replies to any queries.

Cheers

Hi Guys, thank's for the replies. BBSseem semi-dormant as you say, although I did see a post about some new mega-gadjet they had developed.

Richard, interesting that it works for you. Did you have to mess about with msmcomctl ? I did try as administrator and got an error (after I had fiddled with msmconctl), so might try a clean install and try it as administrator then.

Geoff.

Hi Geoff,

I think I did have a hiccup when I first used it under Win10 but if I remember correctly I opted out of VE and then went back to the folder and right clicked on VE and opened as administrator and haven't had a problem since then.

Cheers

I think I installed it as an Administrator and run it at one as well - seems to work fine.

I still have mine as can't justify buying an IID tool for the use it would get....

The software always had been shonky but I now maintain a Windows 7 VM specifically to run the MSV ve software. There also was an issue of you upgraded the IE version but think I forced mine to stay on an older version, possibly IE8 but not an issue as its can't connect to the Internet

I also had to disable UAC and run any of there applications as an Administrator.

It hates high DPI screens as well, so I have to force the VM size and scaling

It's a pain in the ass to be honest and their level of support is poor. Their way or nothing so a lesson learnt.

Feel like I am taking my life into my hands every time I run it..... Its a great lesson on how not to do UI design.

Oh and I think it needs to be 32 bit Windows as well.... Seem to recall the USB serial adaptor is iffy and the driver is not signed......

Seems like with the time and effort wasted on sorting this, it’d be easier and cheaper to get an IID from GAP. You also get great technical support thrown in Thumbs Up

I'd agree

Although the £1K I spent originally on the MSV Extreme (waaaaaay before GAP were even a thing) is a hard pill to swallow. I brought it second hand off here.

Whilst the kit did the job for the day, its suffered with poor development and BBS's pig headness hence Gap taking all their market. Not sure what they are up to now. Sunning in Cyprus I guess....

It's a shame there hasn't been a refresh on the user interface for the MSV2 as it's a very capable bit of kit, but not intuitive if you are not using it every day. I would have happily paid a few pounds for a new PC / App interface.

I have about 6k invested in my MSV with all the different licenses you needed, I still use mine now and again.
As mentioned above the support was poor even from the start, I was stuck with a dead car and the MSv caused it, but they did not want to know, it was always operator error.

I was involved big time at the start with testing the new updates, but even I got fed up with the lack of support. It was the only tool at the time that could do stuff even the LR tools could not do, but was very costly to cover all models.

I still also have my Nanocom, this turned out impracticable in a mobile event because you needed to download all the files from BBS, load to a card and be lucky if you got the right files.

It went down hill when Adrian left the company..

The Gap tool was in another league with user support and ease of use and still are to this day.

Last I heard about Colin he was not so good, not sure if he is still heavly invovled in the Defender forums.
