Well at least my crank hasn’t snapped...
Just has a bit of a mare drive home from Cornwall, tin tent on the back. Just joined the A30 and got up to speed, first hill ‘Restricted Performance’ and red warning. Lost power and just made it to the top.
Tried rolling reset but no good. So found a lay-by and switched off until asleep, it came back ok... .... until next hill 😁
Rinse and repeat all the way to Frankley services where I fuelled it with super duper derv in the hope it was a fuel problem from the back of nowhere garage I filled at this morning. Nope! Got to the end of the slip road and warning came back. This time with a check engine light.
So several more stop and resets at every services. The engine light remains on, but the red triangle disappears until the next time anything more than minuscule power is needed. It got worse as the journey progressed. I could maintain 60 at first, but by the time I got to Stafford services 45 was all it could muster.
Had a look in the engine bay because it had by then stopped raining. Lifted the engine cover and oil on the left (near side) of engine.
Thought about a recovery because didn’t fancy a total shutdown on the M6 smart motorway on a dark wet night. No recovery within 2 hours minimum so pressed on at 45mph.
Got home in one piece.
So, my question is, what do you think is wrong?
Going to plug my iid in tomorrow and see what codes are there.
Kudos if anyone can predict what’s in there !!
Cheers all 🍺

Can't offer any educated guesses Gareth but I'm glad you are all back safely. I am sure someone will shortly up with some good suggestions to get it sorted. I would have been well stressed! D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

I think it was caused by towing a caravan. Never get that sort of problem when going to hotels. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

That’s it, blame the caravan. Why not. They get blamed for everything else...

I have this image of Gareth on the M6
That’s normal M6 behaviour Alan. It doesn’t need a failing engine! The middle lane hoggers see to that!
