New to me Disco 4 TDV6 or SDV6
I'm in the Market for a fresh car and looking at Disco 4 around the £12-15k, 100,000 miles Ideally HSE. In owners opinion am I better getting the last of the TDV6 on a 11 plate or the first of the SDV6 on a 12 plate. I know the latter has an 8 speed box, less tax and more power / better mpg. but I'm more concerned about reliability. Thank you

If you are concerned about reliability. Don't get a D4
I would go for a car with a known history, possibly bought from a member here, with mileage less than 100k.
I wouldn't buy without a warranty - I prefer Warranty Direct, but there are others.
If not taking a warranty I would set aside the equivalent of the warranty monthly payments to meet that sort of expense. Certainly a couple of hundred pounds a month.
These are not inexpensive cars to run.
NJSSAm I Gammon or Woke ? - I neither know nor care.

2011 Mercedes Benz SL350 (R230)
1973 MG B GT V8 - 3.9L John Eales engine, 5 speed R380 gearbox, since 1975.
1959 MGA roadster - 1.9L Peter Burgess Engine - 5 speed gearbox
Past LRs - Multiple FFRs, Discos & a Series I - some petrol, some diesel,
none Electric or H2 fuel cell - yet.

Both MY11 and MY12 have their problems but you are buying a second-hand car so I'm afraid it is a case of caveat emptor.
Service history is a must, also useful to check the MOT records for advisories in previous years and if these were dealt with. Check all the buttons work.
These are great cars and many on this forum have models that run and run and run with just the normal servicing costs. Others unfortunately have had models that go "bang".
Personally I chose a MY12 with 8-speed gear box and 100k+ miles and (said in a very low whisper so she doesn't hear) she has been well behaved

Thanks for your replies.
I will be getting a warranty, don't worry!
I generally prefer the last in the line of something as most known faults should have been addressed where as the first of a new design hasn't had that input.
Is the 8 speed box and more power worth the extra value over an older design....

The 3.0l TDV6 & SDV6 are the same engine and same power etc, upto MY12.
Some have DPF, some don't.

personally I would go for a MY12> SDV6 8 speed. (which I did just over a year ago )
more up to date tech inside allowing full Bluetooth connectivity along with a host of other bits, smoother more powerful engine and gearbox combo.
just make sure its got a full documented history (mine had every receipt since new bar 1 years service) and spend time playing around with the suspension and transfer box settings to make sure everything works as it should.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

The tdv6 and sdv6 are the same engine the sdv6 just has twin turbos and more power but both suffer with the same faults like cracked manifolds and snapping cranks

The 3.0l TDV6 is the same as the SDV6 up until MY12. Both have 245hp I believe
