Mine also showed low battery, after 2 weeks on the CTEK into the towing socket which showed good indications just prior to Lockdown 2.0.
Voltages looked ok.
Charged directly to the batteries (+ve terminal and chassis earth) and warning went away.
Until this Thursday when the car turned into a disco - discotheque, not discovery, lots of flashing lights and bings & bongs - leaving me with the red battery light on. Charging system fault, consult dealer, said the book.
I knew it couldn't be flat, as I'd done 150 miles the day before fetching daughter back from uni.
Again, voltage seemed fine, which the car agreed with as no low battery warning this time.
Didn't bother the stealer, but dropped a new battery in on Friday am, and everything was sweetness and light again. I'd bought the battery after the first issue, just never got round to fitting it as all seemed well.
As a bonus, my cheapy ebay power socket volt meter now shows that the alternator really does vary voltage depending on engine load. Previously, I only ever saw 14.7 volts displayed, with the engine running.
I suspect the battery is the original (Feb 2015) and was iffy when I bought it 3 and a bit years ago.
Having read other related posts on here just surprised that it lasted as long as it did.

+1 Yes, thanks NoDo$h .....I also ordered a BT100, which I have had for a few days now. An improvement on my old fashioned ‘drop tester’. Suprisingly, out of the 4 cars in our household, the best battery of the lot, is the original 12.5 yr old Varta battery in my daughters car, all other batteries are much younger ............ Got the D3 on charge now D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Otherwise the BMS gets confused.
^ this.
Alot of charging direct to the battery posts will get the BMS system confused as it records charge and discharge of the battery through the sensor on the neg lead.
Whilst the car sleeps it still uses abit of current from the battery and if its parked long term the BMS will think the battery is say 70% flat, even though you have been charging it.
Connect the charger through the jump-start posts or the body NOT direct to the battery Neg terminal.
This is very common on BMW / Mini etc that have the BMS sensor on the batt neg lead at the battery. 2015 SDV6 Commercial

Thanks for the link, however that link is for details of a hard reset not a BMS reset after changing your battery.
Cheers Gary

Thanks.
Think it's a bit of a sledge hammer to crack a nut, if you have a tool capable of actioning a BMS reset. What else does a hard reset do? Gary

As the OP, just an update to my thread.
I unplugged the ctek, a week later after entering the D4 I expected the “low battery” message and half expected it not to start.
However, no “low battery” message appeared and (as usual) started straight off the button..
Went for a short 10 mile drive (pre lockdown) and stop/start even kicked in.
But already had the D4 pre-booked in to the local garage for diagnostic checks.
Everything came up fine and absolutely nothing wrong with the D4.
Just put it down to a “communication/translation” issue. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Good news. Suggest either leaving on trickle charge , or a longer top up charge every 3 weeks or so if the car isn't used much. Gary
