Its a brand new battery on today. Old one was not in a good state of charge so bad earth sounds like rhe case,

Old battery bad charge
Car will turn over using a jump lead as a temp earth.

Only had it a month so will call warrenty company tomorrow and they can take it and sort it.
Also sort the air suspension warning and the fact the stop start does not work either, which i think is another broken battery, although all could be linked to broken earth.

Thanks
Tom

If you don't have the "Eco" warning light on your dash then your lack of stop start is likely down to main battery condition issues. It's normally an indication the main battery needs charging or changing. I think getting the earth sorted is the first step , then you can see if things improve.
One other thought. Did you do a battery management system (BMS) reset after installing the new battery so that the car registers that it has the new battery?
Cheers

Hello, thanks for the advice, iv had rhe eco warning light on for a while now. So was planning to chsnge the small battery anyway.
No i did not do a reset, read most of the advice on here saying it was jot actually needed and the car learns the state of the battery etc from it being used.
Obviously if it cant start it cant learn, but it seems the test with the jump
Lead making it turn over would point to an earth issue, but when i get that fixed i shall ask them
To reset the bms anyway

Thanks
Tom

Hi all just to update you, it was the main, chassis/body/engine earth that had gone, all fixed now and a new main battery, new secondary battery so all sorted and good to go!

Cheers

Thanks for the update. Did you fix it yourself? Did you ever try the makeshift earth fix using the jump cable? Interested to know as might need this sometime.
Happy new year
Cheers

Given the frequency that earth straps turn out to be an issue, I'm thinking of adding extras as a precaution.

Yep, I had the same thought and a few weeks ago I fitted a heavy duty cable from the engine lifting bracket to a point just behind the near side headlight.
The cable was one I had left over from a boat battery wiring job. You can pick these up on the bay for just a few pounds.

Clearly NOT going to be this option ...

Yes, after initial shock it's for TEN of them but still bloody expensive.

I'd be tempted to use thicker cables ... 35mm2 or bigger

Quote:
Cable Info...

Multi strand, flexible battery/welding cable 16mm², 110amp.

Hi all, nope as was under warranty it went to a main dealer. Think its was about £340 for the earth cable diagnosed and fitted.

I did fo the earth cable with a jump lead to get it started, this worked well 👍. I guess you could fit extras if you know what your attaching them to? I think il put it on the mainternace list for 5 years time to change it myself 🤷🏾‍♂️
