Passed its MOT this morning. £82 for a wire repair and the test. No brake pad warning light now. In fact currently no warning lights on the dash.....
I put a new coolant reservoir in it this year. Spent 140 excess replacing the windscreen. It’s used no oil or water. Lots of diesel and 8,000 miles covered since the last test- reduced because of the virus- been using my wife’s car some trips to work as she isn’t- probably less than 250 quid for a years motoring as it hasn’t required a service yet. Still seven thousand miles away from that. Probably needs a couple of tyres on the back in the next two or three months. Fingers crossed it’s been cheap motoring this year and will next year too. Decided to keep running it as a D4 doesn’t offer me much more for another ten grand I don’t feel inclined to spend in the current mess the economy is in. Discovery 3 tdv6 HSE 2007

I’m around 200k in mine, and although I’d like another classic car I’ve decided to keep the D3, the BMW 520d Touring and Boxster as they give me everything I need. For the combined costs I could not find a car that gives me all that fun, economy and practicality in one go. No point spending another 10k trying to better these cars that are worth probably between 12-15k combined. I really enjoy the D3 - and it has been a solid buy with only puncture repairs and servicing required. 2007 Discovery 3 HSE Lugano Teal

2012 Ford Grand CMax Panther Black (wife’s) wish we’d sold that instead!

just over 203,000 miles right now! With me since new, in 2006, manual gearbox, a single clutch changed, it is magnificent, many say that it is much better than theirs with 10 years younger, about to leave 10 years ago for a D4 and I did not succeed, just about to leave for a New Defender recently ... and neither, because it could not offer me something new or better 15 years later in exchange for a small fortune, so it will remain here until the end of time I think

200,000 miles can be viewed in two ways. You might think it’s worn out and worthless or you may think it’s got this far it must be good. I still think I would struggle to get as good a load lugging motorway cruising in comfort vehicle for the few grand it’s actually worth. Beautiful comfortable ride for the 400 miles in a weekend we regularly do in it. Discovery 3 tdv6 HSE 2007

This is also my thinking. Mines on 205,000 and doesn’t use oil or water. They’re brilliant when they’re working. I just accept the dash will have lights come on/off etc, but they’re just fantastic all round usability. Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

I think the D3 is starting to look dated now, mainy from the front ie head on.
But like others have said above a D4 to Euro6 spec is 15/25k more, and it is pretty much the same car with some bling.
I do think every now and then about changing, but it works, it keeps on working, and I really cannot be arsed so it stays!

My blue 2005 TDV6 Discovery 3 died at 212000 Miles, but that was due to the engine being starved of oil and seizing. Had it been maintained properly and the problem found in time, I believe it would still be going now.

My 05 SE is nearing the big 200,000 slowly creeping up at 190,500.
With only 5000 miles in the past year will take longer than normal.
Do I need to do the big belt change now or wait until 200,000???
Air Compressor keeps playing up this will be the second in a year.
