Why does stuff need to be 'coded'? |
|
Why do new parts when fitted need to be ‘coded’ by a main dealer in order to work? Surely they could be made to function out of the box – my p.c. doesn’t need bits to be ‘coded’ in order for them to function. The cynic in me thinks its all about a revenue stream…
Sometime back I believe that the manufacturers tried to get the OBD port removed. Is ‘coding’ just an alternative because we still have access to OBD ports?

But that still begs the question why they need coding in the first place?

Helpful to know what parts you're talking about specifically. PAGODA

If someone reprogrammes a pc en you “die” nobody blames the manufacturer...
If someone reprogrammes a car and you die, somebody is going to blame the manufacturer...
So they cover their as es I can not blame them tbh....
Have a read here on the forum.. we all drive and own LandRovers, a lot of people talk bad about JLR...
Even if the motor is 15 years old and wear and tear, its all to blame on JLR...always the design... never on the wear and tear and age... Best regards

Certain items yes but it is said on the Evoque forum that if renewed the steering rack has to be programmed to the car.

It’s to try and reduce the ‘stolen for parts’ culture. With various modules having the vehicle VIN contained in the program it makes parts traceable. A high tech version of Datadoting a motorbike. MY14 TDV6
