This is a new one for me:
What do people think is better Fugawi or Memory Map 
Just trying to price up a decent set-up after Salisbury and maybe in time for the lakes  "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Not an expert, or even used it in anger, but after the recent Salisbury trip, what i've seen is:
Fugawi is all singing and dancing and from what i've seen a bit over-engineered, in a way to make it a little complicated.
Memory Map is good and simple to use, however doesn't give you some of the functionality of Fugawi.
TFC and AndrewS run Fugawi, but i know that Andrew also runs Memory Map off the same PC.
Gilmorr also runs Memory Map in anger

I have used Memory Map for years for green laning etc in the UK. However, I also used Fugawi in Morocco because it was the only system that I could use with Morocco maps.
Having used both, and having also now learned how to load other maps (including Morocco) into Memory Map, I think MM is easier to use and more intuitive. Fugawi however, also has some nice features, and is probably better for point-to-point navigation.
Personal choice is MM

you can get demo versons of both, my personal choice is Fugawi but you do need to 'learn' all of the features and it will also allow you to use Garmin IMG files 8) and it will split-screen with google earth 8) 8)

Yup, Rogue/Craig's right. I like memory map. It does everything I need for offroading and isn't too expensive.
It got us round green lanes in Notts/Leics, Salisbury Plain The Lakes and The Peaks with no bother. I don't know about non-UK areas though.

I don't use the google earth bit very often when mobile - more for route planning pre-deployment 
Anyway, at £7.50/Mb when roaming......

Ouch! thats pricey.
One problem I have at the moment is getting the robbing barstewards at Fugawi to let me have another license. I have used both of mine, and then my laptop got nicked  Getting hold of someone worth speaking to is like trying to talk to god  I seem to remember Chris Tyler had a similar problem pre-Morocco?
Anyway, MM5 reloaded and used the same licence, So MM5 only at the moment for me.

Memory Map is working well for me. Used it for years on PDA, now using it on a 7" screen Ultra-mobile PC (Asus R2H) mounted on RAM mount down in front of the gear lever. Dead easy installation.
Used it at Salisbury, found the "follow route" feature very easy to use.
Downside of Memory Map seems to be the lack of foreign maps. (check the website for coverage) Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!

You can import other map formats, it's just you have to spend a while geo-referencing them. A long while.
